I've only been once so I might update this review later, but I wasn't really impressed by my experience and it makes me reluctant to go back anytime soon. I used to go to Reach quite a bit, it was my go-to vegan place in town, so I was excited to see it had been replaced by another vegan restaurant. First thing that struck me on the menu was the price of smoothies. I always get smoothies, everywhere I go. I didn't there because 250 for a smoothie in Thailand is just too much. Most other vegan restaurants I go to charge half that, if not less. Reach used to make a great mixed one for 80. The menu doesn't tell what is gluten-free or not, which I find annoying. I can't eat gluten and I like to see what I can eat right away. Unless the menu is limited to a few dishes, I don't like having to go through the whole menu with the staff to see what I can safely eat. I also like a detailed list of ingredients (like many vegan restaurants tend to have on their menu), as to avoid surprises. When I ordered a peach "mojito", I didn't expect a branch full of tiny leaves in my drink. I expected peach and soda water only. I ended up with leaves of I don't know what all over my drink. I decided to have a pad thai as I was assured it could be made gf. It was ok but it was the first time in 6 years that I was served a pad thai with the chilli already mixed in, and without being asked the level of spiciness I wanted. It was too spicy for me and not very pleasant as I cried the whole time I was eating. My friend had the same but she loved it as she likes her food very spicy. At the end of our meal, we were asked to write a review in exchange for a free brownie or ice-cream and this is also something I really do not like. I didn't want to say anything there because my friend was visiting and I didn't want her to feel uncomfortable, otherwise I would have. I understand this is a new place and that changes might occur, so I might go back when it is more...
Read moreWe wandered into this cozy vegan café in Phuket and immediately felt the welcoming vibe. The mixed berry smoothie was amazing—almost like a sorbet at the beginning—and really hit the spot. Honestly, it was so good, it almost made us forget about the rest of the experience (almost).
We ordered two falafel pitas, but the concept of “two” seemed to be a bit of a mystery for the waiter. Despite the woman telling him THREE times that we wanted two, he managed to bring us just one. We waited a solid 45 minutes for the second pita to arrive. And when it finally did, it had the same energy as someone showing up to the party after everyone’s already left—awkward. To top it off, the food arrived in waves, like a culinary marathon—each dish took its sweet time, despite the place not being busy at all.
The background music was another story. It felt like we were stuck listening to the soundtrack from the Tarzan video game on repeat for an hour straight. A little more variety in the playlist would go a long way to enhancing the atmosphere.
Here’s the kicker: there’s a QR code on the table offering a freebie if you write a review. While that’s a nice touch, it does make you feel a bit like your review is part of a transaction—just something to keep in mind.
Still, I like the initiative and definitely support promoting more vegan options, especially since they can be hard to find if you don’t want just fried rice and vegetables. (This is coming from a meat eater!)
Overall, we had a decent time, and the food was good—once we got the full order—and the kombucha (from a local company) was amazing.
So, if you’re craving vegan food, some top-notch kombucha, and a slow-but-steady pita delivery service, this place could be a solid choice. Just don’t expect lightning-fast service, prepare for a minor review-related existential crisis, and cross your fingers for better...
Read moreSCAM. Look at the previous lowest reviews. They’ve even responded and said I give lots of 1 stars to try and discredit me - which is not true. They are probably one of the only I’ve given it to. That’s how awful they are.
Onto the restaurant..
It is really quite alarming that this restaurant has an artificially boosted rating on Google due to its policy of providing free brownies to anyone who provides a 5 star review online. Look at the profiles posting reviews below and you'll notice that they're almost like bots with only two reviews. "Criticize privately" - is their response to my review. What does that mean? Don't say anything at all and allow them to continue to cheat the system?
The food is inedible and unacceptable. One curry was completely bland, watery, and filled with half frozen vegetables that had been thrown into a boiling mess. The iced vegetables diluted the flavour into a soupy mess.
If you have a friend who is debating on whether or not to become vegan or plant based then do not bring them here as they will most likely be put off. It is simply disgusting.
You are harassed by flies the moment you arrive on premises and that should be the first alarm bell. The other is that the bathroom and toilet is right next to where the chefs prepare food and the tap is hanging off the sink. There is no shame in having an incredibly cramped kitchen but the quality of food being served along with the snarky attitude of the owners is embarrassing.
For 1600 Baht you could go to a decent restaurant such as ‘Ginger’ Kitchen and have a pleasant vegan meal. This isn’t worth it at...
