I visited Papazula in Phuket Town with high hopes but also some hesitation, as Middle Eastern or Turkish restaurants outside their home regions often disappoint. I decided to try the most premium item on the menu—the lamb shish kebab, priced at 560 THB, which is quite steep for Phuket Town.
The service was excellent, and the staff was very friendly. I even greeted the host with “bro” in Turkish, which set a warm tone. The outdoor seating area provided a cosy atmosphere, complemented by Kenny Rogers’ music in the background. So far, so good.
When the food arrived, the presentation was impressive. The lamb, however, was very tough to cut, which is a clear sign for any experienced eater: it wasn’t as tender or well-prepared as it should have been. While the flavours were enjoyable, this texture issue took away from the overall experience.
The sides, including the rice and fries, were decent, and the overall vibe of the place was pleasant. That said, I’ve had far better lamb dishes in Turkey, so this fell short of those standards. For a Turkish restaurant in Asia, though, it’s not bad, but the premium pricing should match premium quality, which sadly wasn’t the case here.
I’d give it 3.5 to 4 stars for service and atmosphere, but the lamb shish kebab didn’t quite live up to expectations.

Last night, I had the misfortune of dining at Papa Zulla, and I must say it was a terrible experience in every way. This place is nothing more than a tourist trap, with outrageously high prices that in no way reflect the quality of the food. It feels like you’re paying more than you would in Europe, but for dishes that aren’t even worth 10% of their price.
The cuisine is a false representation of Turkish food. The Adana, which should be a signature dish, was an insult: bland, dry, and likely sitting there for days. The calamari? Clearly prepackaged, industrially marinated, and served straight from the fridge. No freshness, no passion, no authenticity.
We spent over 1600 baht for something that wasn’t worth even a quarter of that amount. With that money, we could have enjoyed a meal at a real restaurant where quality and respect for customers actually matter.
In short, Papa Zulla is a terrible establishment, possibly the worst in all of Phuket. I strongly recommend everyone to avoid this place: a disappointing experience and an outright...
Read moreAfter walking around in Old Town in Phuket, we saw this turkish restaurant, and since we are turk, we needed to try it. I did order a adana kebab (a beef shish kebab) and my wife did order pasta with chicken and french fries. The food was great, but i would have preferred little more flat bread to my adana kebab. When we was eating i saw someone did get a turkish black tea which are called cay on turkisv, so after the food i did order a cay. In turkey the tea after the food is free but not here, and it did look like a turkish tea but did not taste like it. The owner and the waiter did tell that the food is halal for those who want that, but there is no signs and it is a restaurant and a bar.
This place got live music which makes the mood great. The service was great and the owner was talking to many customers. But i will say the price is in the high end especially if i compare to the street food on Sundays...
