DO NOT GO THERE!! SCAMMERS!. A man approached my friend and I on the street while we were walking out of Chinatown to go to Raan Jay Fai. He was speaking great english and said he was an English teacher. He said that today was a buddhist holiday and the place was closed and suggested that we go to Jojo's instead. There was a tuk tuk conveniently sitting right where this guy approached us and negotiated with the tuk tuk driver to get the price of a drive to Jojos down to 50 baht. Once we arrived we were a little concerned because the place is isolated at an alley with no visible signs for the restaurant. Once at the restaurant, we ordered a couple of beers and dinner. We then started reading the reviews and realized others have had the same experience...we were scammed. I asked the waitress to cancel our order and to just charge us for the beers. At the beginning they didn't want to cancel the order allegedly because they had already started cooking it, but I said we had to go and that I was not going to pay for the food, so they ended up charging us 330 baht for 2 beer, which is ridiculously expensive! The warning signs that we didn't read are: Someone always comes out of nowhere, they start a conversation with you asking where you are from. Also, there's always a tuk tuk right where the conversation takes place, who will give you the ride for much less than anybody else for no reason and a suggestion to do something different from what your original plan was. Please be careful and don't...
Read moreThis place was recommended to us by a Thai person, but as soon as we got in, we understood that this place was only catered to tourists. Not only because of the fact that the other patrons were all asp tourists, but also because of the prices. Though we did not take this option, some dishes could go up to 8000 baths!!!
The service is approximate giving the fact that we noticed little tiny bugs by our table and it did not seem to bother them. Yes the insects were harmless, but they did not even propose another table for us (knowing that there were some available)
The prices were outrageous, especially given the fact that the food was definitely not worth it. The food was tasteless. My partner had noodles with shrimps. His glass noodles were not cooked, with no spice and the shrimps were tasteless. I had the only vegetarian option, noodles fried egg with soy sauce. And that’s what I had. With a ton of oil. There was no wonder in the mouth, with is disappointing in a country known for its food and spices.
I think that place was catered for tourists and our “fragile” tastebuds, but it’s a shame that the price, lack of hygiene are also in place. As for the food, if you come to Thailand to experience the country for what it really is, DO NOT come to this place. If you come to Thailand and want to take a picture of your food by the river, and say you ate spice food without spices, then this is the...
Read moreDespite some negative reviews labeling it as a tourist trap or complaining about tuk-tuk drivers giving them no choice, our experience was quite different. Our tuk-tuk driver took us around town to see several sites as part of his commission work, earning tokens for free gas each month. He always asked politely if we wanted to visit each stop. When we wanted to eat, he recommended JoJo Seafood instead of our initial plan to try street food in Chinatown. We saw both locals and international diners there, with locals opting for lobster and prawns, which seemed overpriced but to each their own. Our group had different types of eaters, so we took a few minutes to order. I had fried rice with crab, beef, and shrimp, while my friends had various types of pad Thai with shrimp. The food was great, and I highly recommend having Chang beer while visiting Thailand.During our meal, several more guests arrived, and I recommended they try Chang beer, which they confirmed was very good. The 10% VAT plus the credit card fee added up, but I paid about $27, including tip, while other party members' bills were less than $16 each. Despite some of the negative reviews, I would highly recommend a visit to...
