A rooftop bar at 6/F floor of ChingCha hostel overlooking the city hall square, enjoying spetacular Sao Ching Cha, Wat Suthat, City Hall and sunset old own view. No lift, and climb up 6 staircases decorated with witty taglines to keep you motivated.
Food and drinks are tasty with reasonable price. Lot of beer, cocktail and mocktail options with many local and western food as good pairing. Enjoy a Tomyum pot, or fish and chips chilling with your drink, at the old town roof, very relaxing.
Among great view and other things, I particularly like these fun fact or details that I can feel the owner is thoughtful and creative:
Handwritten and drawn "road map" menu guiding you what food to pair with what drinks.
The logo design has great cultural concept in the sense that the point on "i" of "swing" looks like a Thai auspicious marking on building, and "BAR" was extended apparently aspired by the shape of the famous landmark nearby, Sao Ching Cha (Big Swing). Letter A features the Big Swing itself.
Probably no second bar can enjoy so many views of famous temples in old town. Don't miss the view at the back of the bar, aka Golden Mountain and Phrasa Loha.
There are many good restaurants nearby, such as near City Hall, Phratu Pee intersection, just 3-5 min walks. A good place for a sunset or after meal drink!
There are 2 floors of the bar itself to enjoy different tier of views. It's outdoor but usually breezy, and there's enough fans supply to keep you cool outdoor. Staff are very attentive and patient to look after guests at...
Read moreI went here a few times for drinks and the view. I can’t say much about the food except that it looked good and people around me seemed to enjoy it.
There are many rooftop bars in Bangkok. But when you look for one in Sukhumvit, Silom or Sathorn they tend to be very expensive. In Rattanakosin it’s different. You still find nice affordable rooftop bars. They are usually on 5th or 6th floor. But you don’t need to get higher here because there are no high rise buildings.
Swing Bar is one of these bars. The view is great. You sit right next to the Giant Swing and the famous temple. You also see the Grand Palace and Wat Arun at the horizon. Perfect...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this bar after arriving late into Bangkok from Chasing Mai on the train. We wanted a drink or two with a view and this was exactly what we needed. Great view and service along with selection of beers and cocktails. Food was ok but I would just drink here and eat elsewhere given the quality of the food elsewhere. Stairs were a bit scary for my wife who has a fear of sheer drops so for all of those peeps with a height fear use internal stairs instead which we found on the way out 🙄 Also up the top of the bar the structure gently sways in the wind which is a query...
