I first discovered Mae Thum Pad Thai this January and just finished my Pad Thai in july again and I’m still sitting inside the restaurant as I write this review.

Came here for the second time and honestly… still obsessed. It’s located between Loha Prasat and Wat Suthat, and run by the sweetest lady ever. She makes you feel like you just walked into your Thai auntie’s kitchen❤️

There’s no air-con, but it somehow wasn’t hot at all. thanks, Bangkok heat training for 2 years 😅Plus, they play the kind of music you’d hear in a cool cafe. the vibe is so nice. also so cutely decorated inside — seriously, look at that Mu Deng figurine! 💘 And the prices are so, so reasonable.

🥬 What I ordered: I’ve tried both the fried shrimp pad thai and the stir-fried veggie version, and surprisingly — as someone who loves anything deep-fried — I actually preferred the veggie one. It was packed with flavor and had such a nice balance.

😋 The taste? Now I have to say it… I had a lobster pad thai just a week before for 885 baht, and honestly? Mae Thum’s pad thai was TEN times better. In Thailand, price ≠ taste. Same goes for massage 😌

One thing about pad thai in Thailand: each shop has its own signature flavor. Mae Thum’s version has a very distinct character. It may look like a simple pad thai, but the taste is anything but simple. It’s on the sweeter side. if you’re not into that, definitely ask for “mai waan (ไม่หวาน)” to tone it down next time. (Note to self, too.)

🌱 Pro tip: They serve it with raw bean sprouts on the side. I always mix mine in right away so the heat from the noodles softens them just a bit — perfect texture to me.

Totally...

Jazz and pad thai is a fab combination served at this wonderful, cute, delightful eatery in the Giant Swing district.

While we don’t go out to eat pad thai often, incoming rain and the charm of the place, led us to Maethum and what a great decision that was.

Besides five different types of pad thai they also serve hoi tod (oyster omelet) which made ordering easy and simple. There is a lot to be said for focusing on a few dishes and cooking them extremely well and Maethum is knocking it out of the ballpark in this regard.

Their world famous crispy pad thai should be declared a national treasure - crispy noodles topped by a beautifully balanced tamarind sauce, radish, and plump prawns; accompanied by chives, bean sprouts and crushed peanuts was a sensational plate.

Balance is the key word - everything worked well together - often the sauce is too sweet but that’s not the case here. The crispy pad thai is their signature dish and it is a “die, die, must try” order.

The more traditional prawn pad thai was notable for its silky noodles, wok hei flavor, and juicy prawns.

Simply put, come for the food, cool urban garden inspired interiors, and excellent prices. And last, but not least, the warm, friendly hospitality of the family (I think) who run Maethum - their loveliness and kindness is the secret ingredient that makes Maethum one of our fave dining experiences of the...

Im expanding my opinion a bit after coming here again 2 years later. 2 years ago when i came here for the first time, just after it opened it was THE best pad thai we have ever experienced. Crunch of the dried shrimps, perfectly cooked snappy noodles coated with thin layer of thick and intense flavoring sauce, more adjacent to paste contrasting with creamy fresh shrimps was for a long time our benchmark for how padthai should be. But as all things are subject to change, they too had to falter. While the fresh shrimps stayed creamy and fresh as ever, noodles became more soft, rich complexities of the paste gave way to raw, overpowering sweetness, turning a once great experience to yet another featureless rice noodles with sweet sauce i ate during my life. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great pad thai comparatively to maybe most of other's, but for me it's the fall that hurts the most. From an absolute undisputed number one came to a good 8/10. And yeah, as many Koreans in the reviews have noticed, this shop now is definitely catering to Korean tastes, and it shows. No disrespect to Korean Cousine becuse damn i love my kimchijjiggae, but please guys ease on the sugar. (Pictures are from this...
