Love at first bite. Okay, it’s a bad cliche, but that’s how I felt when I was recently brought to Mit Ko Yuan (MKY), an iconic Thai-Chinese food eatery near Bangkok’s Giant Swing.
The seafood vermicelli (yum woon sen) was the best I’ve ever eaten in Thailand. The seafood was super fresh and beautifully complimented by a zingy dressing - I would come back for that alone.
The prawn fried rice was also next level with perfectly cooked fried rice topped by two large deep fried prawns that delivered big flavor and crunch simultaneously. Also recommend stir fry vegetables with crispy pork.
The menu is comprehensive and they file all the signature dishes in the “This is a Wonderful Dish” opening page. According to my better half, MKY has been in business for 80+ years, and while the decor hasn’t changed, the old Chinatown atmosphere adds to the dining pleasure.
When you have dining institutions like this, I don’t know why visitors flock to the IG famous eateries instead of this. But given the large number of Bangkokians eating here, they’re doing fine and I’m already counting down the days until I return - and with more people - try many...
