We were visiting Bangkok for a few days and I was committed to having Pad Thai while there. After reading the less-than-favorable, recent reviews of ThipSamai, I opted to instead visit Baan Pad Thai.
The Google reviews on Baan Pad Thai seemed to describe it as an under-rated, delicious and affordable option for Pad Thai, and I fully agree.
We visited the restaurant for lunch and were immediately seated. The staff (whom, I believe, was the couple who own the restaurant) were friendly and patient while taking our order, despite the language barrier.
The food came quickly and hot - we ordered the Pad Thai with Prawns (note: this is different from the Pad thai River Shrimp, which was unavailable - though, to be honest, I don't know what the difference would have been). The dish, as well as the chilled lemongrass drink, were winners!
In total, we ordered 4 dishes and 5 drinks for a very affordable total price of less than THB 500!...

Of course, I went for their signature Pad Thai, and it was outstanding. The noodles had the perfect balance of chew and wok char, the tamarind sauce was tangy but not too sweet, and the shrimp were fresh and juicy. Every bite carried that smoky, slightly caramelized flavor only a proper wok can create. Add a sprinkle of crushed peanuts and a squeeze of lime, and you’ve got pure comfort food magic.
It’s definitely more polished (and pricier) than your average street stall, but the quality and care behind every plate make it worth it — especially if you want to experience the national dish in its best...
Read moreFrindly smiling owners and great food! Tried the khao kluk kapi or 'shrimp fried rice' - a delicious dish! The different elements mix so wonderfully to make a dish that is more than it seems. The dish consists of rice, stir fried with shrimp paste, topped with shaved green mango, shredded omelette, crispy fried shrimp, stewed pork, red onion, cucumber, sliced green bean, and lime. Not an overwhelmingly shrimpy flavour to my suprise. Interesting contrasting textures and flavours. Do yourself a favour and try something other...
