AVOID You will be waiting hours for your food and then the manager will try and guilt trip you.
By far the worst place to eat in Ko Lipe and for me, the worst experience I’ve had in a restaurant in all of my travels around Thailand.
Myself and my partner ordered food from here and it ruined our night. We ordered with a trainee waitress who was very polite and professional, she repeated our order back to us and we confirmed it was correct.
My partners food came first and I patiently waited for mine, as my partner was close to finishing I asked the waitress if there was a problem with my pizza, she was very apologetic and as she was a trainee explained that she would ask her superior. Ten minutes later she returned to say my pizza was now being cooked.
I wanted to pay and leave at this point but we had been waiting that long, most of the food places in Ko Lipe were close to closing.
We waited and waited and then the waitress came over to inform us that it would be five more minutes. After another fifteen minutes It finally arrived.
I didn’t end up finishing all of the pizza as it wasn’t great, my partner had also said her food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great.
When asking for the bill I also asked could I have a word with the manager. Again the trainee staff were very polite and helpful even though they struggled to understand my accent.
When the manager arrived, before I could even speak she started talking about all the times being recorded on the till and was basically lying about what time I received my pizza, I mean I was hungry, I know exactly what time it was when I finally received it. She then informed me that pizza orders needed to be sent to another part of the restaurant in the resort to be cooked so it would take 20 minutes longer than any other order. My reply to that was if I was informed that when ordering, I would have chosen another meal so that I could eat with my partner together at the same time.
She then changed to the tactic of trying to guilt trip us by saying she couldn’t give us any discount as she would have to pay that money back herself. We had planned to have a drink later that night but after all of this, we arrived on walking street to find that everything had closed.
Don’t waste your money guys, they charge double here, compared to the restaurants on walking street where the food is...
Read moreThey don't deserve the damning reviews on here! On our visit during high session (February 25) staff were very attentive, friendly, welcoming and service was quick and with a smile. Food was very good and muuuuuch better than we'd expected for a seafront restaurant on a busy stretch of beach. Food undoubtedly is more pricey than in other parts of Thailand, but supposedly everything has to be shipped in, so fair is fair. And: the portions were much bigger and I therefore didn't feel ripped off! Also: they used "authentic" ingredients and methods of preparing food, for instance my (very tasty) Morning Glory Faideng was for once (first time on this trip!) prepared with fermented soybeans and "flambéed" and utterly delicious. My husband's prawn dish was also done to perfection and with great care. Cocktails are pretty much the same as everywhere in Thailand, i.e. a bit weak, but nicely presented and refreshing. I like to think that we're quite discerning when it comes to food and we both were very happy with our experience at Akira. We also liked the show of respect for the man doing the fire show - they turned their lights down in a sign of support for his efforts as another local "provider". Very impressed - especially as they have such a captive audience and are in a prime location on the beach with beautiful sunset views (photo taken from our table)! Thanks - we'd visit again, had we not left the...
Read moreThe price was on the high side, i.e. higher or double the price of things at walking street. However, the quality and taste of food was not that bad as some other found. We came here because we want to find kids friendly restaurant to watch a fire show (i.e. Not a bar).
The Mong fish (Caranx) is the best. I want to get a local fish to try (not farm fish) and this one was so unique. It was flesh and the meat was tight. Very different from farm fish which was trend to be loose and flaky. The other dishes were in a range of good and very good.
One downside was the thai dishes menu was very limited. It is more of western restaurant in a hotel trying to have Thai menu rather than a true Thai restaurant. It is just heppens that their Thai dishes were good.
It is recommended if you need to find a nice setting to watch a fire show and some extra...
