We booked their private room and ordered their course meal. For the amount of food, portions, and taste, it's definitely worth the price and a visit to this restaurant.
Every dish that we tried is good, and our group personal favourite is definitely the river prawn, tuna tartare, and beef carpaccio. The river prawn is very fresh, and it is grilled to perfection, and it blends in so well with the sauce. It's definitely one of the best that I have eaten here in Bangkok. The tuna tartare reminded me of my favourite tuna tartare place that I've eaten in Paris. Absolutely delicious.
One slight disappointment is that the meal was served pretty slow halfway to the course ; I'm guessing that the kitchen is too 'small' for the overwhelming crowd. We decided to just pack the last 2 dishes to go as it has already taken us about 4+ hours to finish the meal. Honestly, I'm feeling sad rather than angry because their food is delicious and the service is really good. It could have been a perfect experience. Nevertheless, their attitude in handling the situation is really professional. They apologize sincerely and admit to their faults and give us a discount on the bill.
One thing that I would like to comment for the restaurant to improve on is to properly brief the server on which menu is to be shared and which is individual dish for the course meal. The reason is that when they serve the risotto, we ask and confirm with the server if it's for sharing or not. The server told us that it is an individual dish. At that time, they were just serving 3 plates for our group. We ask 3 of our friends to eat first while the food is still hot. Halfway eating, they serve the 4th plate. At this time, we were confused, and we asked why they were not serving all of it at the same time. It was only then that the serve corrected us that this was a sharing plate. At this point, we could not share the first 3 plates anymore as my friends is finishing their meal. So the rest of us (9 people) had to share that 1 plate of risotto 😅
But despite all this, we will definitely still return to dine at Cento again as the food is really worth it.
Oh, I would also like to say that I like the small touch of using hand towels instead of tissue in the washroom for drying hands. Lol is not food related, but it's just nice to be more...
Read moreI had dinner at Cento last Friday 21st along with my wife, we were both very excited to visit this new place located in Sala Daeng (former Aesops, the Greek restaurant). Bangkok restaurant's scene is booming at this time, having plenty of choices for diners willing to explore. Unfortunately, not many of those are successful and is really hard these days to me to find a place where everything matches perfectly. That was the case of Cento. Our expectations were high but eventually matched from the beginning to the end. We arrived at 7.30pm and stayed at the bar having a drink (the staff is super welcome and warm and made us feel at home). The decor is very stylish and warm with noble materials and plants. The idea was to get a drink at the bar and move to a table, but my wife surprisingly wanted to stay at the bar, then we did that (wives are always right or almost...). We started with Puffy Bread - Mortadella while having our aperitive, and then we also had the Hamachi - Crudo that was delicious! followed by some Grilled Cabbage and Guanciale (I have to say locals can find it a bit savoury due to the guanciale, I personally loved the combination) at some point we needed some white wine to washdown the food that was coming, then we ordered 2022 Cote Du Vivarais Blanc from Domaine Gallety (a producer based in Rhone Valley), it was showing beautifully with bright acid and good freshness all supported by some weight to it too. An impeccable wine, very versatile that went well with the entire meal. Thereafter we got the Charcoal Roasted Chicken and the Burnt Carrot as side dish, Top Top too, super juicy and tender chicken with great flavors. To finish with in order to have a touch of sweetness, we had the 70% Chocolate Mousse, a fantastic combination of flavors, creamy ganache with oil and salt, crumbles and vanilla ice cream! it cannot go wrong. I judge the experiences in a restaurant by asking myself: shall I come back or not? the question was clear, definitely I will come back.
Well done...
