We came here for the afternoon chocolate making class and the cocoa rush hour and had a great time! Certainly on the pricier side of things to do but definitely worth it in my opinion.
It was a bit hard to get details of what the chocolate class would involve up front, even after emailing the lab and checking their website. Basically its about taking already made chocolate bits (premium, commercial Belgian chocolate) and turning it into the final product which you'd find in a fine box of chocolates, including melting and mixing to create the various parts, putting it together and decorating. Two "recipes" (types of chocolate ie. truffle) are included in the class which goes for around 1.5 hours. You'll need a minimum of 2 people to make a booking, we had 3 and were the only ones there. We ended up with 18 little chocolates to take home including a nice chocolate box for 9 of them and a nice bag for the other 9.
We decided to add on the 'Cocoa Rush Hour' after our class which comes at a special price when you pair it with the class. I'm guessing this because they expect people who have done the class to eat less which I feel was the case with me as I'd already been sampling ingredients and chocolates in the class (as was encouraged by the chef / teacher). Still, 1.5 hours is a good amount of time and lots of...
Read moreTLDR: drinks were overpriced for what they were... think cheap chocolate powder, milk and ice. Seating area was air conditioned, clean and comfortable
Full review: stopped by with my husband as part of our child-free date day. The place looked promising at first glance.
We ordered the Chocolab Choco Frappe and iced chocolate.
The iced chocolate was a complete disappointment. It was comparable to a cheap cafe in the 1990s in Australia. It literally tasted like cheap chocolate powder (not even Ovaltine for nostalgia value) mixed with milk and ice cubes. After a sip, we left it aside. For the price I was expecting at least nice chocolate flavour if not the kind of iced chocolate with a scoop of ice cream and chocolate sauce.
The namesake drink was at least acceptable, though I still wouldn't describe it as tasty. Note that the white chocolate on the sides of the glass was not part of the drink and purely decoration. Do not consume - I tried scraping some off and it's disgustingly stale.
I also had the coconut and lemongrass truffle. It was tasty but not exceptional.
Overall, not...
Read moreHad a jaw dropped experience with this cafe in So Bangkok hotel…. Came in at 9.30am, trying to get some coffee with some breakfast bite like sausage muffin and hash brown. But yet we were told that we need to wait for 40mins for the sausage muffin to be ready and 30mins for a simple fried hash brown! That is a crazy wait time 40 mins! For me, it is enough for me to complete a meal and maybe even a dessert!
Who would wait 30 mins for just a fried hash brown? And “being prepared by the hotel kitchen upstairs” is not a good reason for your guest to wait 40mins for a simple sausage muffin and harsh brown. To add on, we are only the two customers that is in the cafe! No queue and the cafe is empty!
Terrible experience. Unacceptable wait time. So Bangkok Chocolab, ad a 5 stars, I’m sure you can do better than that. MacDonald and other fast food outlets is doing much...
