I learned of this place via one food review programs last year. The review seems to be positive. I do miss Western food. Don't get me wrong. I can never get bored of Thai food. But when I was in Melbourne, it's just a lot easier to walk or to catch a tram to one non Asian restaurants after work. But here in Bangkok, I dont think it's that simple plus traffic congestion.
Initially I planned to take my parents to check this place out during the New Year but with Covid19 2nd wave, it had to be postponed until today. Today is my birthday, so perfect opportunity to try new restaurant.
My first impression of the place is that the outdoor setting is pretty, but I prefer to sit inside with air con. It's hot and lots of mozzie in Bangkok. I didn't quite get the attention from the waiters and waitresses. Any way one of them manage to take us to our table. Inside looks good with the light dim down. Romantic setting. Next came the giant menu with drink menu. The waitress was standing there waiting for us to place our orders. My mum wants to order the mussels. We checked what people ordered before, so we know they do serve mussels here. When I asked the waitress in Thai if they have mussels. Turn out she is not a Thai. No problemo. But she didn't know if they serve mussels, so she said she will find it out. She came back and said no we don't have mussels tonight. No problemo. My dad asked if they have any ox tail stew. She said I don't think so. My dad asked. Do you serve any steak, she said yes but not able to provide what cut it is. So I asked my dad, how about lamb shop? Then my dad asked the waitress how big is the lamb chop. She couldn't answer. So she have to ask other waiter to assist. Only then she mentioned that she is new. I would prefer if she would have mentioned that from the start. Anyway, my dad and I are sharing the lamb chops and my mum ordered scallops. We have the salad and escargot for entree.
After a little while the waitress came back and asked if the scallops is for entree or main. We waited for a long while before the entree is served. But we didn't get offer any bread. We have to ask for it. Lucky that the breads are served warm. We dip bread to the sauce from escargot, delicious. The blues cheese and walnut salad is good too. I love blue cheese.
Now come the main course. My mum seems to enjoy her scallops with creamy mash potato. My dad and I also enjoy our lamb chops. Although we should have ordered medium rare but during Covid19, we try to avoid undercooked meat. Anyway, the seasoning is yum. The ratatouille is also fantastic. Love the dish. Great job there.
Birthday celebration must end with dessert, so I ordered creme brulee and crepe suzette to share. They serve the crepe suzette without flame. Very disappointed. The creme brulee looks good but the crepe suzette look pretty not so delicious. First of all, it has to serve with flame at the table. The crepe itself is too thick. I don't even think there is any liqueur or Grand Marnier in it. The caramelised sugar is definitely crunchy but the custard is too runny and not quite set like pudding. Another disappointment. Wanted to end the night on a high but the two desserts are definitely a fail for us. For some reason, I couldn't stop thinking that they probably think they can serve this and noone would notice the difference.
This is a French restaurant. The food they charge are not cheap, so I do expect better service and more authentic French cuisine. We even have to pour our own water. One last thing is that the wooden floor board is not solid. So whenever anyone walks pass those floor boards, everything wobble and it's a very uncomfortable experience especially for someone with motion sickness like me.
Okie, so the question on whether I would give this place another try? Probably not. I'm glad I...
Read moreWhen I previously lived in Bangkok this used to be one of my favourite dining spots in Bangkok, not only for French food but excellent food in general. In a word though, the meal I had last Sunday evening with my partner and a good friend was disappointing. A mixed bag actually. The positives were the atmosphere and the service staff in the restaurant. The ladies who attended to us were friendly, polite and professional. The bartender who made us pre-dinner drinks was also friendly however the Manhattan cocktail I had was not good, cloudy, frothy and with no garnish of any kind. I prefer stirred, not shaken with a maraschino cherry, had he bothered to ask. The strawberry daiquiri my partner had was similarly very ordinary with no fresh strawberry flavour. The glass of Prosecco for our friend was fine. For an appetizer two of us had the gruyere cheese fondue with house soufflé which was exceptional, so too the special of mussels in a white wine broth. The filet of beef at 950 baht each was extremely tough and impossible to chew, not what we expected at this price. The. accompanying dauphinois potato was dark brown, lacked in flavour and had obviously been frozen and reheated. The steamed vegetables were good and a nice selection. The pork with a cream sauce served with pasta was nothing special. I should also mention that there used to be a bread selection which was a nice touch but now just slices fresh sour dough bread which was okay. The cream brûlée my friend had for dessert was good. The crepe suzette that my partner and I had consisted of thick stodgy pancakes with no resemblance to thin crepes. The sauce was lack luster, flavour less and barely warm. I feel that the pancakes were probably frozen and reheated. The vanilla ice cream accompanying the dish was okay. Two bottles of Prosecco and still water were served with the meal. The total bill at over 9000 baht I thought was on the expensive side and given the poor main course offering and dessert quality, definitely not value for money. This visit to Indigo was unfortunately nowhere near not as good as in the past and I doubt I would dine...
Read moreI went on Valentine's day so they didn't serve a la carte menu which is not a problem, many restaurant did that but I think they should pretty sure that their selection should be impressive.
The atmosphere is classic, I know that it established for a long time but I think they should change a tablecloth, it has a very big hole like toddler can put their hand into it.
Services is what I concern and make me decide to write this review. French menu always take time for me to read even it was in English, the thing is the waitress come and ask me "เข้าใจไหม" which makes me shock, there's many ways to purpose help. By the way, I think the table next to me has a worse one, the waitress pour white wine to Champagne glass! omg that customer was very calm he said, next round please use white wine glass.
For food not that bad and not that good, amuse bouche not interesting. Escargot with puff pastry for appetizer...hmm not my type but, Hamachi was ok. Main course, lamb stew taste like grandma recipe which I don't think it good for special occasion. Duck was great cooked. By the way, I saw the next table ordered beef wellinเton and I think it looks so delicious but, it is English recipe? who order this one, you have a third dish with puff pastry. Desserts are ok.
Overall compare to price...nah a...
