The Quarter Silom is a reasonably priced hotel (use Agoda for the best price) in a quiet location in Silom. The staff is attentive and friendly and the breakfast buffet is excellent and worth paying an extra few dollars or Euros added onto the room rate. The breakfast hours are generous (6:30 AM to 11 AM).
The lobby is clean and adjacent to a very good pizza place called 90 Grams. It has a good selection of vending machines as well.
The rooms are rather small at 23 sqm and lack shelves or storage place for clothing. The LED lighting is a nice touch. The bathroom and shower are clean and relatively well appointed. The balcony is tiny and not for the faint of heart who might have a fear of heights. The entertainment is decent with a nice LG screen to watch Netflix or local television and world news in English if desired.
Room service is generally efficient although they failed to restock the mini fridge or clean the balcony most days. The wifi tested about 85 mbps on most occasions although it has a tendency to drop late in the evening. The breakfast buffet staff is quite attentive, almost overly so as you do feel a bit "watched" and it is a bit uncomfortable to go for seconds. Furthermore, if you have a partner who is a late riser you might have a bit of pushback on bringing a plate back to the room. It was quite an ordeal to accomplish this on one occasion this even though the added breakfast rate includes both occupants. They expect that you both dine in the restaurant. I assume this has been abused by solo travelers in the past due to their attitude toward bringing food back to the room. However that could be easily fixed if they checked occupant numbers against your room number.
The biggest problem I had is with noise. The doors are very loud and the hallways echo with sounds of voices in the morning. It caters to mostly Chinese tourists who don't particularly have the best etiquette with regard to respecting the solitude of others, frankly. The noise literally dropped this to 3 stars for me if you want quality sleep in the morning as it is perhaps the loudest and worst soundproofed hotel I've ever stayed in.
There is a nice gym, however it caters to the public as well and can be quite full as a result. I dont like competing for space with the general public for equipment that is paid for by my nightly rate. The pool is decent but it is not private at all as it is viewed from the adjacent restaurant and gym. I did not try the sauna, so I have no comment on that. The rooftop has a decent view but seating is very limited and the hours end at 8PM which are not guest friendly considering Bangkok never sleeps.
Overall I'd recommend this hotel for solo-travelers and not couples or families. The hallway noise, particularly doors closing and loud voices is unbearable at times for a light sleeper. Strongly consider that when booking.
If you want the best rate, use Google search for the hotel rates and adjust the days. Fridays to Fridays seem to be the best rate if staying weekly. I booked a second time to extend using this method and saved a substantial amount on Agoda which is consistently...
Read more2 people. We stayed 2 nights. Pretty cheap hotel in the Silom area. But, you get what you pay for. At check in there was no bellman to help us with our luggage out of the taxi. Nor did anyone take us to our room. When we got to our room, that was in another building, we couldn't open the door, so I went back to the reception and was told they had programmed the keycards wrong. They fixed the issue and still, no one to follow us to the room to make sure everything is okay.
The room was bigger than I expected. Getting a bathtub and in room microwave for this price is rare, which is very positive. But again, you get what you pay for. The room didn't have toothbrushes, slippers or any amenities other than basic soap and shampoo. There was only 2 big towels, no hand or face towels. You can request slippers and toothbrushes, which we did. The toothbrushes were fine, but the slippers were made of thin paper and both pairs broke when we took them out of the package. The rooms size was such a positive surprise that we didn't care much about the lack of amenities.
This last part is mainly for the hotel management, but it's also part of my review: At 9 am on our last day at the hotel, I asked the reception if we could check out late. The receptionist asked for my room number and told me that a checkout at 5pm would cost 300 and 6pm would cost 400. I accepted the 5pm checkout price and we left the hotel for the day. At 1:30 pm I get a phone call from the reception, who apparently changed their mind and is telling me that I will be charged a full day for the late checkout. I told them this was unacceptable as I had gotten a price from the reception before leaving the hotel in the morning. She said she had to talk to her staff and would call back. She didn't call back, so we went back to the hotel at 3pm and asked the reception, once more, how much the late checkout would cost. This time we got yet another different price, 500 baht for a 5pm checkout. At this point my hope for this hotel's quality of service was lost but I told them I was promised a 300 baht 5pm checkout. The lady in the reception told me that the 300 baht price was for a smaller room. I was then told I could check out at 4pm for 300 baht. We accepted this new time but there were no apologies fromt he staff about the situation.
From my stay I got the feeling that this hotel isn't really focused on service or properly managing their guest's experience. The extra 200 baht I was asked for isn't really the problem, my issue is with the way the whole checkout situation was handled by the reception staff. The total lack of consistency in their communication and not following up on what was promised to the guest is nothing more than bad service. While we liked the room with the bathtub, and the location, the poor service by the reception staff makes it pretty hard for me to recommend The Quarter Silom to anyone, at least until management has gotten the guest service...
Read moreThe Quarter Silom by UHG is a disappointing modern new hotel.
Throughout my entire stay I just continued to encounter problems.
The air conditioning did not work, the phone in my room did not work, some of the USB sockets in the room did not work, the shower kept flooding when you were showering.
The water pressure is reasonable in the shower, however the water temperature in the shower would fluctuate from cold to scalding hot every 30 or 40 seconds so you couldn't enjoy a shower.
The rooms were advertised with a balcony which technically was true, but in reality the balcony was useless and was about 40 cm wide and just looked out onto a dirty grubby back of another building and an alleyway. They should not be able to advertise something like this with a balcony when quite simply it was useless and was pretty well non-existent.
Due to its size it was physically impossible to sit on the balcony you could only stand on it and even that was a squeeze and there was simply no point because the view was horrendous.
The gymnasium is also very small with hardly any room so if 1 or 2 people max people were in it it is pretty well full and no one else can use it.
The rooftop garden is somewhat of a joke! When you find your way through the hit dark corridors to and then up the fire escape and then on the rooftop there is a tiny area with one sun lounge.
The pool is squeezed in between two buildings is long narrow and uninviting
The corridors in the hotel are not air conditioned and are hot and stuffy.
The rooms are small and the beds are quite hard. They do provide free bottled water, dental kits and shower caps, but do not provide cotton buds or face washes or bathrobes, and the slip is they provide a terrible they like a piece of cardboard with a covering on them.
There is a small bar fridge and a narrow desk and a large LCD TV with a very poor selection of English speaking channels. You either get to watch Euro News or Al Jazeera and otherwise nothing else is in English and about 10 of the channels that don't even work at all.
Even the internet stopped working and when I went and advised reception which I had to do in person because the phone in the room didn't work, they got it working again however they never addressed the issue of the phone in the room not working.
The air conditioning was noisy and rattled constantly which became annoying especially at night when it was quiet.
This UHG property doesn't crack up to others that I have stayed at and this one falls way short in so many areas for a new hotel.
I would not recommend this hotel and I would definitely not...
