Sad - do not go here anymore if you know butcher from 2 years ago. It had a French chef and the food was of excellent quality. Greatest beef Tatar in Samui. No joke. I came back today and the look is all the same. Very nice location. Friendly staff. The beef Tatar is gone but the menu is still French-Europe. I thought I give it a try and ordered tuna Tatar and Greek salad. It came with a nice presentation but I think the chef just cooks after the visual appearance. He does not know what it should taste like. And yes - he/she seems to come from mianmar or Cambodia as the staff told me. Also I was told quite some guest complain. It seems they ride on previous fame. The tuna was of ok quality but rather tasteless. The side sauces and so on were fitting for beef Tatar but sure not to a tuna. Very boring and uninspired plate. But nice looking. The Greek salad was warm and dry. Feta cheese without any taste. Served with a bit of lame Joghurt cream. I had to order olive oil and vinegar and with salt and pepper got at least a bit of a Greek salad feeling. Very sad to say - but that was quite a...
Read moreBased on review recommendations, coupled with the fact I fancied one, I ordered a burger and fries...big mistake 😐. The actual meat pattie was fine but the small, greasy bun and ridiculous amount of greenery under the meat made it impossible to pick up and eat in that as soon as I tried taking a bite the whole thing just fell apart onto the wood board it was served on. Ended up eating it with a knife and fork 🙄. The fries weren't fries, they were skin-on wedges of potato, not in itself a bad thing, but again they were coated in grease and the skins were like chewing rubber.
Staff seemed to spend all their time looking after one table, obviously looking for the big tip. In the meantime the children of said table were running riot around the restaurant and standing in front of the fans blocking them from the other diners.
On the whole it wasn't a positive experience and I'll definitely be giving the place a wide berth in future, there are far better places within a 5...
Read moreAs a big steak lover this place did not disappoint! My gf and I both ordered steaks. She had the Australian steak and I had the USDA striploin. We were both floored by the quality of meat and by the flavour (and this includes our first bites with no sauce). Their garlic compound butter served with the crustiest but softest (in the middle) bread was something to write about by itself. For sauces, I had the Maitre d'Hotel butter and I had this other compound butter which was bursting with flavour. I would visit this place repeatedly if I came to Koh Samui often. Although we were staying in Chaweng Beach, we took a short motorbike trip to Lamai Beach at night and it was so worth it. I highly recommend The Butcher. One more thing - the service was on point and on par with (or even better than) service we get back home in...
