Wow, apparently the older lady working in the shop hates her life and her job. I have not been treated this rudely anywhere else in Thailand. I walked in with a smile on my face and asked for a croissant. She was clearly hoping it was to go, but I said I would like to have it with a cup of tea. With that she pointed at the boxes up on the shelf. I asked for green tea. She heated up the croissant, made me a cup of black tea instead, and pretty much threw the items in front of me.
The croissant was terrible as it was tough and dense, not light and flaky, and had no flavor. I was not offered anything to go with it either.
I feel sorry for the younger girl working in the shop as she seems nice. After paying the grumpy lady, who just typed in my total on the calculator and made no eye contact even after I gave her the money, I said thank you and she just turned and walked away. The young girl smiled and said thank you.
Such a bummer. I would have come back and tried something different for breakfast, but not after this!!! This woman needs to find something else to do that give her joy, since it is clear this is...
Read moreLove this place. Definitely recommend eating in if there's room, especially because later in the day, the croissants get a bit soft from the humid weather here. When you get one to eat at the cafe, though, they'll give it a gentle toasting and bring it warm and crisp to your seat. Divine! The baguette sandwiches are also excellent, fresh-squeezed orange juice for cheaper than anywhere else I've seen it in Phuket, and good tea and coffee. The star of the bunch, though, is either the elusive Pepita (seems to sell out before anything else, and having tasted it once, I know why: pastry with perfect thin layers of custard and dark chocolate, light, not overwhelming, scrumptious), or the amazing apple tart, which never seems sold out, maybe because it's a bit more expensive than the croissants and such. It also looks bigger than you'd think one person would eat, but don't be fooled! It's so good, you may not want to share. Staff are kept on their toes during busy times, so it can be hard to subtly catch someone's eye if you need something, but they are friendly and responsive to a wave or being approached at...
Read moreA Factual Review for Busy Full-time Traveling Dads Like Me: Siam Bakery in Phuket Town caught my eye after checking into our nearby hotel. Looking for a break from Thai food without breaking the bank, I decided to give it a try with my two kids. Here's what I found:
Pros:
Reasonable prices: Pastries, bagels, and coffees were all reasonably priced, especially compared to touristy cafes.
Great selection: Wide variety of pastries, from croissants and danishes to cakes and quiches, kept everyone happy. My kids loved the bagels.
Hot and cold coffee: Iced lattes were refreshing and well-made.
Friendly staff: Staff were patient, helpful, and attentive, even chatting with the kids to create a relaxed atmosphere.
Good AC: A welcome escape from the Phuket heat.
Cons:
No charging ports: As a solo dad working remotely, this was a bummer.
Overall:
Siam Bakery offered a delicious and affordable break from Thai food, with friendly service and a comfortable atmosphere. While the lack of charging ports and limited savory options might not suit everyone, it's a solid choice for a quick bite or...
