Since I travel a lot on business and end up spending many nights in tower blocks that are business hotels, I try to avoid them as much as possible on holiday. ||In Phuket, we had two objectives: |1. To explore the ‘old town’ and get a ‘flavour’ of the place and its history |2. Sample the local food stalls, many now recognised by Michelin||To meet both of these objectives this hotel was the ideal base. It is right in the centre of the town, all the landmarks are within half a kilometre, and 80% of the city’s Michelin featured eateries are within a kilometre’s radius. ||Despite being in the middle of the crowded old town, and with a night market happening in front of it every Sunday night, the hotel is very quiet. There are actually two buildings, joined together, and spanning an entire block. The old building is now the museum with two floors of galleries, the hotel is housed in a purpose built new building, probably with adequate insulation. ||The room that we stayed in, with a balcony, and overlooking the street, was spacious and aesthetically very pleasing. Every room seems to be individually decorated, and the furniture, furnishings, works of art, and illumination have been very tastefully put together. The place has the finesse of a luxury boutique hotel with the personalised attention of someone’s home. Of the many small touches, a coffee machine in the room is one which I enjoyed particularly.||The staff are friendly polite and attentive - and genuinely helpful. ||However, what makes the hotel unique is the attached museum. After all, how many times do you get to sleep in a museum? ||We would warmly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a different experience, without being prepared to compromise on...
Read moreYou couldn't ask for a better location. Woo Gallery and Boutique Hotel is located right in the centre of Phuket Old Town which makes it really easy to explore the area while taking breaks from the heat in between. The hotel is gorgeous and the management has done a wonderful job keeping the spirit of the building while incorporating modern amenities. I had a deluxe double room and it was very roomy and even included a comfortable daybed. The balcony was also a pleasant surprise and, though the hotel is right in the thick of it, I had no issue with noise. The breakfast was good and generous.
The only downside was the cleanliness in the bathroom. There was mold around the basin drain as well as on the glass in the shower. In general, the room was quite clean but these details have clearly been overlooked. It brought down my overall enjoyment of the room. One other small thing is that it would be good to have a/c in the hallways or allow some minimal level of cooling in the rooms while guests aren't present as the heat can be oppressive and it takes a long time for the room...
Read moreExcellent location right in the heart of where you want to be and walking distance to where you want to go. An hour by taxi from the airport.||Very small hotel, beautifully and tastefully restored, with probably the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Make sure you allow plenty of time during your stay to explore all the rooms and see all the amazing artefacts and historical items.||You pre-order the cooked element of your breakfast the evening before so it can be cooked freshly for you and enjoyed in the beautiful dining area. Some mornings, we were the only guests at breakfast so had the place to ourselves.||The street right outside the front door closes on Sunday afternoon/ evening and is part of the Chartered Walking Street market with stall after stall of amazing freshly cooked foods and local delicacies.||There is a lift which is very small but that probably goes with this being such an old and historic building.||Would I stay here again?...
