TLDR: gorgeous views, professional friendly service, highly recommend the duo-textured Hong Kong noodle roll with shrimp, expensive
Full review: lunch with my husband as part of our child-free date day. No reservation made. We called ahead to check availability and were assured walk in was fine, and when we arrived the place was mostly empty. However, based on the questions we were asked as we navigated our way there, reservations seem to be commonly expected.
Overall, I felt that even with the ambience and service it was expensive for what was served, hence 3 star rating. We had 50% off with Accor Plus membership which personally made this a 4 star rating for me, but value-for-money assessment is based on the full price as not everyone would have this discount.
The venue is beautifully decorated, balancing modern aesthetics with Chinese style decor. The large tables and chairs also means that there is ample space to manoeuvre strollers, wheelchairs, walkers, etc around. Note that the bathroom is upstairs from the main restaurant, there is an accessible toilet.
Service was professional and friendly, helpful without being pushy or overstaying welcome. I also liked that the menu was on a tablet, though you still must place your order through the wait staff who use paper and pen.
We ordered 2 of their mocktails and ice tea Sunset Blossom: delicious balance of citrus and sweet flavours Yuzu-Cha: the volume of ice cubes makes it hard to stir but recommend you do so to avoid an overly sweet finish of too-much-honey
We ordered several yum cha dishes ala carte. Fried tofu skin with shrimp: the ends where it's just the skin, it's crispy. The rest of the skin was not. There was a higher ratio of whole shrimps but otherwise the taste was comparable to standard yum cha restaurants in Melbourne Shrimp har gow: again, a higher ratio of whole shrimps but overall taste as expected Shrimp siu mai with black caviar roe: the siu mai itself was unpleasantly fishy Duo fish roe shrimp dumplings: again, the dumpling itself was unpleasantly fishy Truffle shrimp har gow: this was not particularly good or bad. The truffle flavour was really subtle Hong Kong noodle roll with shrimp: same as average dim sum restaurants in Melbourne Duo-texture Hong Kong noodle roll with shrimp: AMAZING!!! Highly recommend. Shrimp wrapped in a crunchy golden net, wrapped in the soft noodle roll. The contrast is divine Homemade wakame shrimp ball with dried scallop sauce: this was not...
Read moreFood: The food was a mix of highlights and some room for improvement. A few dishes stood out as absolutely delicious, while others were a little dry and lacked flavor. After eating, I did notice my throat felt a bit dry, which might be due to the seasoning or cooking style. Given the international clientele, it’s understandable that they adjust the flavors to suit different tastes. The crab dim sum and glass noodle scallops were particularly outstanding and definitely worth mentioning.
Service: K. Hill provided exceptional service. His attention to detail and dedication to ensuring each customer had a memorable experience was truly impressive. He was friendly, considerate, and made sure we had a great table. The staff, including other female employees, were also warm, polite, and ready to help with anything, even offering to take beautiful photos for us.
Atmosphere: The atmosphere was luxurious, though the interior design felt slightly outdated, especially compared to some more modern Chinese restaurants. Despite this, the space still exuded a sense of elegance, with the cloud-themed area being a standout feature.
Overall: It was a lovely dining experience overall, with great service and delicious dishes, especially the standout items. The slight dryness in some of the food and the dry throat afterward aside, the atmosphere and food adjustments for diverse tastes made it a...
Read moreBai Yun is a beautiful blend of refinement and warmth, perched high above the city with sweeping views of Bangkok’s skyline. The moment you step in, the space feels calm and polished — soft lighting, clean lines, and a modern Chinese aesthetic that’s both elegant and welcoming 🌇✨. (Went there for lunch with Rem, Jenny, and Mami.)
The ambience sets the tone, but the real star is the food. Dim sum is delicate and well-executed, and the larger dishes hit that perfect balance of flavour and finesse. Special shoutout to their taro dishes — every single one was excellent. Crisp, light, and with that perfect balance of savoury and sweet. Honestly, I’d go back just for those.
The whole experience was an utmost pleasure — from the warm welcome by the greeter at the entrance, to hearing a yangqin being played live in the lobby, to the thoughtful attention to detail in their restrooms. 5-stars or any rating doesn’t quite do it justice. It’s a place that knows how to make you feel taken care of, from start to finish. And it’s all because of their service team, who work...
