Recently, I had the pleasure to be invited to dinner at La Scala, the Italian restaurant at The Sukhothai Hotel, that famed tranquility at the top of Sathorn Road. They have recently launched a new menu so I was excited to see what their innovative chef Jean-Jaques Vu had crafted. A quick glance at the menu confirmed we were in for a treat ! I was invited by Arunika Ekawati, the Spa and Wellness Director and we opted for the sharing experience which allowed us to indulge in a selection of two appetisers, two pastas and two main courses, delivered to our visual delight and described in detail by our attentive waiter who allowed us to move at our chosen pace through these culinary delights. The Mozza Di Buffala and the Cured Tuna offered a balanced pairing to stimulate the palate while the Linguini and the Gnocchi lived up to expectation. The main course of Roasted Sea Bass and Braised Beef Cheek was exceptional with the fish flavours unleashing the juices wildly encouraging me to hold the experience as long as possible while the cheek disintegrated in the most pleasurable experience when entering the mouth. All in all a couple of hours well spent in this comfortable well designed restaurant that allows plenty of privacy with the spacious table layout, warmly furnished and set with gentle lighting. A thoroughly enjoyable evening, which I can...
Read moreWe got the package with Ms. Ploy, she was very friendly and explained everything thoroughly. Our first event was dinner at La Scala & it was so good. The restaurant is really nice and it was quite quiet. The staff is very friendly and the chef even came out to say hello. Also, Ms. Ploy was there to greet us and a few other tables. Now, about the food: It was so so good! My favorite was the mashed potatoes, it melts in your mouth. The tabouli was really good. I liked the sweet potato hummus. The bread with pesto and garlic sauce was really good. My wife liked the pork collar & the side cabbage was really good too. I wasn’t a big fan of the risotto. Also, the rice pudding had too many pomegranates and nuts to taste the rice, but it was pretty for a picture. The chocolate tart had this ice cream cheese stuff that was chilled and it was really good and the chocolate tart was pretty good too. The package includes two nice dinners. Just be aware drinks are not included. Also, sometimes they have a free tarot card reading just check in advance. The membership includes 50% off for one year so we might come back a few...
Read moreLa Scala has an intimate settings and good selection of wine. For the night, went for the tasting menu (summer edition) and understand that the menu does change with the seasons. The Pomodoro e mozzarella (mozzarella wrap with tomato inside) was excellent. Enjoyed the Polipo e patata (grilled octopus with potato skin) full of flavours. Vitello tartufato (veal with black truffle) was rather tough to chew on (maybe it was a teenage bull, acting tough). Rigatoni Al forno (pasta with Bolognese) was very well done, good combination that complements each other. Coda di tonno brasata 'ca cipudduzza' (braised tuna) was on the dry side (maybe it was out of the water for too long). Costolette di agnello, vignarolo Al Timo (lamb rack) was on the gamey end, though the skin was nice and crispy. The best was save for last, dessert Fichi e gelato all'aceto (Apple Vinegar ice cream with figs) was refreshing without being too sweet. Ended the dinner with an agave tequila espresso cocktail, perfect after dinner drink. Great that chef David Tamburini came over to the table for a...
