I’ve been to the Sky Bar at Banyan Tree many times over the years mainly with guests from overseas. It was far better back when it was on the other side of the rooftop. It used to be relaxed, elegant, and welcoming. The staff were attentive, the pours were generous (still expensive, but quality), and the 360-degree view of Bangkok was and still is — absolutely stunning.
Unfortunately, the experience today feels entirely different and not for the better. On arrival, guests are now herded to a counter where you’re required to prepay a minimum of 1,600 baht for drinks and are handed coupons before being allowed up. It feels crass, transactional, and more like a fairground attraction than a luxury rooftop experience.
Once upstairs, the staff are far from welcoming. The manager’s curt “wait there” set the tone, cold and insincere. No effort or politeness in asking our requirements etc. The drink service is painfully slow and when it finally arrived my Aperol Spritz arrived flat, with the prosecco element completely still (even missing altogether?) While it was replaced, you have to wonder why something so obviously off was served in the first place. The seating area is cramped, and guests are packed tightly together, losing any sense of exclusivity or comfort.
Bangkok’s rooftop bar scene has evolved, but sadly, the Banyan Tree hasn’t kept up in the right ways. The view remains breathtaking, that’s its saving grace but the overall experience is costly, inconsistent, and lacking the warmth and quality that once made it special. A real shame. It feels like the Instagram crowd has taken over, and in chasing that, Banyan Tree has lost the soul that once made this place...
Read moreMy partner and I visited Moon Bar last week during our stay in Bangkok. We visited around 5pm and stayed about two hours. Other reviews suggested a reservation since it gets busy. Since we went around 5pm and it was still very hot, we were one of the first guests there so it was very easy to find a table (and managed to situate ourself in a spot perfect for the sunset). Our server, Oliver, was super kind, friendly and attentive. The view from this location is absolutely amazing, it almost felt unreal to see Bangkok from 59 floors above (and it was also cool to get a 360 view of the city).
In order to get in, you have to purchase a voucher for 800baht per person. This voucher can be used towards your food and drinks. However, you don’t get back what you don’t use which isn’t a huge issue since even the nonalcoholic drinks are 300+ baht. During our stay we tried 4 drinks (unspoken paradise, orchard spritz, AC/DC, and fire and blossom) and the cauliflower popcorn. Overall, the drinks were a bit too sweet for our liking but when we asked for more soda water it wasn’t an issue. As for the cauliflower popcorn, the cauliflower was nice but I wish there was a different dipping sauce, bc again, the sauce was a bit too sweet.
Overall it’s a great spot to visit once...
Read moreAwful experience at the moon bar. I had gone there for my birthday on the 27th of November with my fiance, dressed up as they had a dress code. You have to pay 800 baht per person to enter the moon bar. Fair enough paying a premium in which you get a drink each and have amazing views. The only good thing about moon bar is the view and could be one of the best views of Bangkok. However the view is overshadowed by the amount of people , it is rammed full of people. Additionally you get a load of wannabe influencers hogging the places where you would take a photo spending 20-30 minutes speaking to their chinese audience very loudly. They have a so called dress code but then they let a load of khaosan road tourists with their flip flops and vests join. I was shocked seeing that they just allow anyone then why even have the dress code. The service was super slow taking 30 minutes to get our cocktails which was super watered down.
Overall id recommend going to another skybar which bangkok has plenty of which you do not have to pay a premium of 800 baht to be around a bunch of backpackers and wannabe influencers. I wish i didnt spend 800 baht there i could of went to any other skybar literally and this experienced nearly ruined...
