Let me tell you a story. The story of the best Chinese Restaurant in the City of Joy, Kolkata. "TUNG NAM EATING HOUSE!" ♥️ Delicious in taste, too much variety in the menu, pocket friendly, authentic, sufficient in quality and the best service you can ask from the the most polite and well behaved staff and owners. I have been eating here for almost ten years and since I haven't found a Chinese restaurant that serves better chinese food. I will tell you about the dishes that me and my wife had the last time we've eaten here but trust me when I say this, everything on the menu is delicious and worth having. I have tried them all. So the last time we visited we had: 1. Pork Yaam Wonton 🐖🥟 Rating: 5/5 Price: 150/- Some of the best wontons I have ever had. So delicious and soft and the perfect starter for a perfect chinese meal. It tasted even better with their signature sauces. 2. Chicken Fried Rice 🐓🍚 Rating: 5/5 Price: 150/- Absolutely delicious well cooked fried rice with alot of chicken pieces and veggies. Quantity is sufficient for two people but I suggest order two plates for two people because it tastes so damn good. Price is also very cheap. 3. Chili Chicken 🍗🍲 Rating: 5/5 Price: 190/- Superb in taste, well cooked and big pieces. The chicken was so good, tender and juicy and it contains eight pieces. So as you can tell the price is also very cheap. 4. Pork Fried Rice 🐷🍚 Rating: 5/5 Price: 150/- Absolutely delicious well cooked fried rice with alot of pork pieces and veggies. Quantity is sufficient for two people but I suggest order two plates for two people because it tastes so damn good. Price is also very cheap. 5. Pork Hamei Sauces 🍖🥘 Rating: 5/5 Price: 190/- Taste is King! My favourite dish from Tung Nam. Big, juicy, tender and the most succulent pieces of pork cooked in the most delicious sauce. The dish to die for. I don't think any restaurant in Kolkata serves berter pork dishes that Tung Nam and you'll find alot of reviews and vlogs in YouTube about Tung Nam but let me tell you none of those reviews tells the real story about Tung Nam. Only people like us who have been eating at Tung Nam from as long as I have can tell those stories. This is from the heart. Thank You, Tung Nam. With Love, 💌 From Me. 🙇

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Tung Nam, one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in Kolkata. Run by a Chinese family, this place offers a wide variety of delicious Chinese cuisine at budget-friendly prices. While the restaurant may not boast a luxurious ambiance, it more than makes up for it with its authentic flavors and friendly service. Tung Nam's limited seating arrangements can be a bit challenging, especially during peak hours and weekends. Due to the limited number of seats, it tends to get crowded quickly. So, I would suggest planning your visit accordingly or making a reservation in advance. The restaurant's shady ambiance may not appeal to everyone, but it is important to remember that people flock to Tung Nam primarily for its mouthwatering food rather than its decor. Once you take a bite of their authentic Chinese dishes, you'll understand why it's been a favorite among locals for decades. One dish that I highly recommend trying is their Ride Noodles. The flavors are rich and the noodles have the perfect texture. Additionally, Tung Nam offers a diverse range of options including pork, chicken, vegetable, and prawn/fish dishes, ensuring there's something for everyone's taste. Parking can be a slight issue, as the restaurant only offers two-wheeler parking on the street, which is chargeable. Finding a spot for a four-wheeler can be quite challenging in the vicinity, so it's advisable to consider alternative transportation options or plan accordingly. In conclusion, Tung Nam is a hidden gem for those seeking authentic Chinese cuisine in Kolkata. The restaurant's affordable prices, wide variety of dishes, and friendly service make it a worthwhile experience. Despite the limited seating arrangements and lackluster ambiance, the flavors of their food will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression. Give it a try, and savor the delightful taste of Tung Nam's offerings!

"Filth behind mask of reputation"----- that is an oneliner to describe this restaurant (the owners call this an eating place). By virtue of my staying for more than a decade across the street in the 70's through early 80's I know this locality well. Those days there were many road side eateries here (Tereti Bazar/Poddar court) owned and operated by Chinese people as this place has been dominated by residents of Chinese origin. They served original recipes of China and I really enjoyed them. With time these eateries have dwindled and only 4 - 5 of them exist today. Tung Nam is one of them. The last time I visited the place to have a lunch grub was in the recent past (a couple of days). I decided to write a review of the place and took some pics and spoke to the owners. The place is very basic, without AC and fairly large and airy. The food quality is just okay for a Chinese food outlet owned and operated by Chinese people (a family business). Prices are much higher for the quality. While the area for eating out is clean and maintained well, the kitchen was a filth. I was not allowed to take any pics of the kitchen after I was able to just peep into the space. It was dirty, congested and the people doing the food were dirty. It was unhygienic. For a place of repute, such a sense of hygiene was unacceptable. Also, the hospitality is nowhere near warm. I have rarely (if ever) seen any smiling face. They are too robotic who understand only business. I also doubt if they ever pay taxes (they always give bill scribbled on a piece of paper). Please be careful if you ever to eat here. There are better choices nearby (Pou Hing, D'Ley and See Vui restaurant).

While it may not offer the absolute pinnacle of Chinese cuisine in the city, the experience and authenticity are worth recommending. 🍲Tung Nam takes pride in their age-old recipes and the art of making noodles in-house, creating a truly authentic culinary experience. Don't miss the opportunity to take home their delectable prawn chips, a true delicacy. The ambiance at Tung Nam remains nostalgic, transporting you back to the bygone era of Chinese dining in the city. 🏮✨ 💥 Tung Nam is a hidden gem, cherished by those in the know. While you may find better Chinese cuisine elsewhere in the city, the experience of dining at this establishment is what sets it apart. The rich history, traditional recipes, and old-school ambiance create a unique charm that is hard to replicate. 💎 🍽️ A Flavorsome Feast: Our meal at Tung Nam was a mix of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The Veg Ball Manchurian, Mixed Hakka Chow Mein, and Veg Fried Rice delivered a spicy and distinctive flavor profile that set them apart from the average Desi Chinese fare. The non-vegetarian options, including Pork Chilli and Chicken Hong Kong, were thoroughly enjoyed by my companions. Tung Nam may not be the pinnacle of Chinese cuisine in the city, but its authenticity, age-old recipes, and unique ambiance make it a must-visit for those seeking a genuine Chinese dining experience. Immerse yourself in the flavors of tradition and enjoy a taste of nostalgia at this hidden gem. Pocket Pinch: ₹1200 for 5 ⚠️Carry your cash here. And there is almost always a waiting here! So be patient. Check the timings well, as they are very prompt with it.

Tung Nam. Means South East. That means Canton province of China. Heaven of Cantonese food that is how i shall decribe Tung Nam. Located inside a narrow lane in between BSNL territi bazar and Kolkata Improvement Trust building. Nearest Landmark is Poddar Court. Easily Accessible if you want to avail metro railway or come by bus. Decor: No decoration, No Ac, No fancy seating arrangement... So NO GST Food: 1. Pork Yam Wonton: Yam means steamed. Small steamed wonton with a generous filling(not like dimsum) cooked to perfection. seasoned with Hamchoy and seseme oil. Taste is Outstanding. 2. Roasted Chilli Pork: sliced pork roasted to perfection tossed in sauces and green bell pepper and onion, green chilli. Excellent 3. Pork in Hamei Sauce: Hamei sauce is prepared from Fermented Shrimps. So flavour of fish is there. Authentic and Tung nam speciality. 4. Chicken fried rice : Tastes great with the smoked flavour as tossed in a wok. Generous portion of chicken and egg. Quantity is more than enough for a couple. 5. Chicken Yam Mein: Authentic Chinese steam noodles. Just steamed noodles and steamed chicken with hint of ham choy. Seasoned with salt and sesame oil. This dish is without any spices. I like this kind of dishes.**** But not for all.**** Authentic steamed chinese dish. Tastes Excellent. A 300 ml soft drink Total Bill was Rs 890. Just Imagine! We 3 people just can not complete the fried rice at last. So order one by one. Because quantity is more than enough for a couple.

Located in one of the oldest China Towns in Kolkata, this eating house is an absolute gem. Its only about 10 mins walk from Central Metro Station. It's not about the ambience, it's all about heritage and authenticity. Walking into this place will fill you with the authentic Chinese feeling with the smell of different kinds of fish sauces, noodles and pork. A humble place for hardcore Chinese lovers. They keep the place nice, clean and tidy. The staffs are well behaved too. Now coming to the food... The quantity and quality both are equally good. 1 plate of rice or noodles is enough to be divided between two people. From my personal opinion one must try their wantons...they are soft, juicy and have a good portion of stuffings. *In Frame* Fried chicken wantons Pork Wantons Yaam Mein Fried mix mei foon Chicken in haemei sauce Pork with mushroom and baby corn Wantons are their signature dish. Crunchy from outside, juicy from inside and tastes awesome. Yaam Mein is basically a noodles dish with pork Wantons and shredded porks tossed with oil. Fried mix mei foon is a rice noodles dish with veggies, chicken, egg and prawn. Haemei sauce is basically a fish sauce that smells fishy but the dish tastes good. Pork with mushroom and baby corn is a light dish. They charge no extra tax or GST I would highly recommend the Chinese food lovers to visit this place and must try their wantons & pork dishes along with different kinds of rice or noodles.
