Balıkçı Murat Abi — Restaurant in Fatih

Just google-searched “Fish Istanbul” and looked through the map to see places nearby. Decided to give a try and this is REALLY the best places to try local “fish sandwich” with mackerel. I was surprised. Really.

Let me tell you why you should give it a try too: Fantastic tasty sandwich, with LOTS of fresh ingredients being put in bread with fish (salad, lemon juice, onions, salt/pepper/spice).

Owner, who cooks with love! He wears gloves and is very polite, reserved and welcoming. He accurately removes bones from fish (in two sandwiches I had not any bones at all).

Prices are really good. As of March 2022 just 20 lira. For that BIG fresh hot crispy sandwich!

Cleanliness. Unlike other street food it is not right at the road (so no dust from road being catched in your sandwich - unlike in other street food shops).

i have heard about Mario fish sandwiches (on the other side of town). I haven’t been there, but seems like a lot of hype. This one is not less or maybe even better.

If you could combine simplicity, passion and authenticity you would end up with this mind blowing fish sandwich. Watching this gentlemen prepare your sandwich is proof that he purely does this out of pure passion rather than to exploit his customers. As lovely as a city that is Istanbul, for a tourist to find an establishment that is authentic and purely available to host a customer out of joy and willingness to share something special is rare. This gentlemen gave us one of the best food experiences we've had in the most simplest form for a nominal price, the sandwich is priced at 40 Turkish lira which I feel is ridiculous for something of quality in the old city. I spent a full week in Istanbul, with great places, palace, famous restaurants and places as Nusret, Hafiz Mustafa and co But this place is my favourite one of all. This is an authentic place, the owner is a gift from God, he doesn't speak English but will understand you. His kindness has no equal here, last night I went to eat there, ran out of cash he wanted to offer me the missing money, of course I went back with more money, but this warmed my heart after fighting all week with taxi drivers.
