Overcharged and Intimidated – A Deeply Unpleasant Experience
I visited Pera Restaurant on Konyaaltı Beach in Antalya with my teenage daughter and unfortunately, it turned into one of the most uncomfortable and disappointing dining experiences we’ve ever had.
We were pressured and misled into choosing fish from a cold fridge display with no clear pricing. The waiter, Adil, strongly persuaded us to select raw fish “market-style” but piled far more than we expected into a basket. We were tired, hungry, and confused, and the prices were never clearly explained.
After much waiting and discussion among the staff, Adil returned and quoted us 4,500 TL — a shocking amount. I immediately requested a smaller portion, and the price was “recalculated” to 2,100 TL for just three prawns, two sardines, and a small fish fillet. We still hadn’t seen a proper menu. When we finally got access to a QR menu, we noticed it showed two different prices — one for locals and one for tourists.
I asked for a simple salad and was again guided to a fridge, expected to pick cold meze. I had to explain multiple times I just wanted a basic tomato-cucumber-leaf salad, which seemed to annoy the waiter. We were also talked into ordering an octopus tentacle — a very small piece that cost 880 TL.
While we waited, they placed bread, olives, and water on our table — with no indication these items weren’t complimentary. Yet when the bill came, we were charged for all of it. The total bill was 3,500 TL.
I refused to pay for the water, which should have been complimentary. Adil was visibly annoyed and eventually took 400 TL off the bill. I paid the rest by card. He then asked for a 10% service charge, which I declined. He became confrontational and demanded cash directly from me, which I ignored. He reacted by angrily throwing his arms in the air and speaking aggressively to his colleague in Turkish.
As a woman traveling with my daughter, I felt vulnerable, pressured, and taken advantage of. No tourist should have to endure this kind of manipulation or intimidation.
My advice: avoid this restaurant entirely. In fact, be cautious when dining in the Konyaaltı Beach area. Based on conversations with other travelers afterward, this kind of treatment is not uncommon.
If you’re visiting Turkey, I’d recommend booking an all-inclusive hotel or doing thorough research before dining out — otherwise, be prepared to be overcharged and possibly...

We had the antalya salad to start (for two). The highlight of the meal, absolutely gorgeous. Who knew that fresh Basil and mint would go together in a salad so well.
Main course was the fish platter. Not quite as fabulous as the salad but very good nonetheless. Includes barbecued Prawns, barbecued salmon, calamari, red snapper and whiting. A good selection, well cooked and presented.
The service was top notch - they couldn't do enough for us. Its refreshing to find a Turkish restaurant where the staff are grateful for your business.
It came to just over £72, including tip, which seems a bit strong for Turkey. But take into account the quality of the food - especially the salad -, the service and how much a meal like that costs in the UK and its value for...
Read moreWe've had a very pleasant lunch in this place today. The food was delicious and the prices average, and we didn't have to wait long for our order. Hot shrimps, an exquisitely garnished salad, and a complimentary bread and olive plate were mouth-watering! The main dish, seabass, was fresh and perfect! We'd like to say thank you to our waiter, Erfan, who spoke English and Spanish fluently and was really helpful and efficient! The atmosphere is nice and friendly, the choice of music very fortunate. Non-smoking guests should choose seats far from the main window. We will definitely visit again! 100%...
