Everyone believes their evening bolthole is the best in town – and we’ve got a real contender in the shape of Brooklyn Bar.
The clue is in the name with this one – a true slice of the Big Apple squirreled away in the corner of the Elite Byblos Hotel in Al Barsha.
It’s unassuming, relaxed, has more monster screens up on the wall than you can keep your eyes on and is such a taste of New York we half expect Jake Peralta and the Nine-Nine to breeze in for after-work drinks.
There’s felt-covered slate and an oche for those who can’t get through an evening without some healthy competition, but we’ve yet to visit when there hasn’t been a live game dominating the floating TVs – we even have dibs on the remote, how’s that for home comforts? Serving staff are lightning on the refills and are fast at tuning into personal preference when it comes to whetting the whistle.
On the gastronomic front the chicken wings are tasty enough to be pecked clean while the usual suspects of flatbreads, burgers and curly fries (why have straight when you can have curly?) are both popular and filling.
The cherry on top of this decadent cake? The menu is more than reasonably priced, meaning the tab is never at risk of causing cardiac arrest.
It’d be any easy one to miss for those not in the know – but once on the radar will be a first round pick for matchdays, many a merry evening and plenty of preambles for a big night painting the town red (and white and blue).
Swerving Brooklyn Bar would be criminal, and we’re sure Detective Peralta and the rest of the Brooklyn Nine-Nine crew will...
Read moreMan I came here with high hopes for a great meal. Instead we got attitude from the waitress and terrible food and drinks. We ordered a pork hot dog which they did not have in the menu but asked if they can make it. Hey I mean American sports bar should have an American Hot Dog right? Well no, she had to go ask finally they said yes at a higher price which ok no problem we wanted it anyways. I asked the waitress please only American mustard, ketchup and grilled onions. I asked her 3 times do you have American mustard she said yes we do! I said please no English mustard! Its not the same. Hot dog came out with English mustard. I took a bite and returned it immediately. Gross! She took it away and we just waited for our Pork platter. 3 minutes later she brings the same hot dog back. I said we dont want that she said why? I said we asked you about the mustard and she said ok we will change it. Five minutes later again she is back with the same eaten hot dog. I said lady I’m not eating that. Then she said we dont have American mustard only English. Well darling thats not what I ordered. They took it away and removed it from the bill. Same thing with a Strawberry Daquiri. They did not have it but were able to make it for 79dhs. They brought it and did not taste like any alcohol. We sent it back and they guy added a fifth of rum to it. All we wanted was what we ordered which was not over the top or difficult. Thanks but I’ll pass next time...
Read moreBe aware of getting scammed ! Be watchful of what you ordered else they pen on what you haven’t. The entire service crew and manager need a thorough training on customer service. Being unattended on a fairly unoccupied evening is not acceptable, the waitresses were busy talking to each other and cared least on attending customers and above all being charged for a burger and a coke which wasn’t ordered isn’t acceptable, this clearly shows the reluctance of the staff and inattentiveness. The manager is extremely rude and dint put any efforts to discuss with his team on this and simply asks us to call the police for verification, the manager had the audacity to call us drunk for seeking clarification . I hope Tareq (general Manager ) and the respective team take this seriously and do not scam any further customers who care for a relaxed evening at Brooklyn bar. Never again at...
