Gunaydin comes to us all the way from Turkey, where they are one of the more popular steakhouses with over 40 locations. There are plans to expand in the UAE and the middle east, which is fantastic news for meat lovers.
Their obvious strength is cooking meat to perfection. Every cut of meat that I had was cooked perfectly, most importantly, they were all tender without being rare. This is something that many restaurants fail perform in as they feel that in order for it to be tender, it has to be rare. Gunaydin was able to do achieve tenderness with various cuts of meat, not only the premium slices and I thought that was impressive.
I also had the best hummus that I have ever had at Gunaydin. Restaurants tend to serve me hummus even though I don’t order it, mostly because the doesn’t isn’t something I crave, I find it ok to have but I wouldn’t order it off the menu. The case was entirely different here, the hummus was incredible and I finished all of it by myself. I contemplated ordering a second serving but decided not to since I wanted to try their other items.
What I particular like about Gunaydin is they don’t focus so much on using sauces for flavour, but rather the combination of their ingredients to provide a unique taste. The way the meats are marinated here not only help to contribute to the tenderness of the meat, but also brings out its original flavour of the meat.
Finanlly their desserts were an awesome way to finish the evening. Usually I am not a fan of rice pudding, even in 5* hotels I don’t eat it. The rice puddings that I have had are either too sugary or the top layer is overly burnt, but once again Gunaydin surprised me with the perfect execution of the dish. The overall level of sweetness was just right and the top layer was nice and semi crispy, the way that it should be done. My last dish was the turkish ice cream served between baklava. This one I thought it was a little too sweet, since the 2 items are sweet enough on their own and when combined, it is sweetness overload. Still, it is great to enjoy in moderation.
Gunaydin is a fantastic option in Souk Al Bahar and should definitely be considered before all the other restaurants...
Read moreFrom the day they opened service has been the worst thing about this place. Food is far from authentic or tasty, prices are pathetic. Kebabs, doner you name it , it just is not good. They are selling the view and location and somewhat their name as GCC region is familiar with Turkiye and places in Turkiye. But like many other Turkish places, this place suffers from service with horrible attitude and disappointing food. And their only focus is money which is understandable as each business is after that but Günaydin does it so horribly and obviously. For example last time I was there and swore never to go back was for breakfast. One of the kids at the table wanted a tiny bit of ‘kaymak’ and I asked the waiter if they have any available just a dessert spoonful. And this was after the breakfast service hour and once waiter brought me tiny teeny spoonful, he said this was the scrape of the container like the very last kaymak left. They seemed so happy to accommodate but when the bill arrived i was charged whole price for ‘bal kaymak’ plate. I never received any honey and kaymak was nothing near the portion size but I was asked to pay the whole price. If I had known that is the case I’d perhaps decide not to order it. I paid as I can not be bothered to argue with such business ethic and I know waiters get argumentative there. I have been there many times ( so this review is sum of years of accumulation) because a friend of mine is big fan. But let me tell you except the location there is nothing Gunaydin delivers. Prices are on the very high end. Food quality on the other hand is on the very low end. Service is close to non existing. Argumentative. Turkish waiters get annoyed so easily, no comment is welcome, no extra requests will be welcome unless paid even if it is a tiny substitute. After so many years unfortunately nothing has changed. As someone who knows Günaydin from back home, I would never recommend or go back...
