Wow to be honest, I didn't expect myself to be giving this rating to Ravi. I thought it would just be a normal place for breakfast but the food really blew me away. Been thinking whether to visit this place cause as a tourist its not a good and accessible location so far from the metro station. Its best to come here by bus instead but I took a long walk from the metro station. I was actually thinking of eating the briyani and I was disappointed that I was too early for briyani as they only start selling briyani after 11am. I was already thinking of leaving the place but then one of the guys stopped me and asked me to try some breakfast food like some beef curry. I just said okay I'll try a small portion. I was a bit worried cause I didn't get to see the menu properly and was wondering if they would rip me off. The guy actually told me its not expensive and I had to trust him. He then served a plate of curry stew like dish and the moment I tried it, my eyes lighted up and I was like how delicious is that! The beef was so soft it just become flat as I pressed it with the spoon, and when I placed into the mouth it felt like it would melt in the mouth. I really cannot describe the curry but it was so smooth and not too spicy and so strange there was ginger strips on it. The guy then asked me if I would like to have paratha to go along and dip the sauce. I wondered how much it would cost again but I didn't ask so I nodded and he went to bring some freshly made paratha which was hot to even use the hands. I waited for a while for it to cool and I tried the original taste and wow it was so thin and crispy it tasted like paper! And the flavours was so good! And of course the combination with the curry was just the ultimate. I wished I could eat more, but he served 2 parathas and I only had room for one, and also just to be on the cautious side in case I get ripped off. It was so comforting and satisfying I was kinda just at a loss for words but just enjoying it throughout and saying wow wow wow in my mind. They also offered this dessert to try I just tried a spoonful and I guess I didn't try more I didn't want the sweetness to overwhelm the food I just had. When I went to pay for it I didn't realized that the price was so reasonable that my jaws almost dropped. This is one place that I will visit whenever I come back Dubai, not for their Adidas but this again! Also hope to be back to try the briyani at a later time. Its such a...
Read moreWe decided to check out Ravi and see what the fuss was about. We ordered like mad for two people, I think the waiter was rather stupefied by the amount of dishes we ordered. Here is what we had:
Palak Paneer: it was good but not wow. The texture of the palak could have been better Daal Fry: this was pretty good
Vegetable Fry: a mix of potatoes and peas, the texture of the potato was perfect. Since the spinach in the Palak Paneer was excellent, it would make sense to order the Allo Palak next time.
Mixed Grill: I avoid eating meat in certain places and this was one of those occasions. I didn't try it but the beef kebab was supposedly very good, so perhaps try that out.
Chicken Peshawari: I didn't try this but it didn't get a good rating from my friend
Mutton Mughlai: also whatever
Salad: don't bother with this
Plain rice and bread: nothing to write home about
Ravi is a big foodie institution in Dubai because it is quite affordable and the food we ordered would have been enough for four people to be stuffed. It is not exactly my cup of tea as I would have expected to be blown away by the food. The location is in Satwa, parking is a drag, the restaurant looks gross, there are so many things that make it an un-excitable venue, so I would expect the food to be WOW for this to be such a destination. If you go then I suggest you go at night and sit outside you don't see the interiors. Food just wasn't amazing enough for me to go back, but that's just my opinion. More...
Read moreRavi Restaurant in Satwa is the OG—a cultural icon of Dubai. When it came close to shutting down during the pandemic, local support resuscitated it, helping the establishment regain some of its lost glory. Their collaboration with Adidas, resulting in limited edition Superstar Ravi sneakers, speaks volumes about their enduring presence in Dubai's collective memory.
Hearing about Ravi from multiple sources, I have always wanted to visit. Do note the old-school vibe isn't particularly a place one takes their family and children; my wife, during her years here, used to opt for takeaway for that reason.
Nonetheless, the food was worth both the visit and the price. The rogni naan was the best I have had globally—I could sit and eat the hot naan just with butter. The deceptively named chicken tikka isn't cube-sized at all but rather a quarter piece of chicken. Its light chili heat yet rightly spiced flavors were exactly what I needed. The special kadai chicken was also commendable, though I have perhaps had better elsewhere. We wrapped the meal up with a spectacular karak chai that just hit the spot after a fulfilling meal.
In the end, I will strongly recommend Ravi for anyone considering takeaway or delivery. Dining in is fine if you're okay with the hole-in-the-wall vibe, predominantly frequented by...
