The Blacksmith Bar & Eatery, Dubai Marina — Restaurant in Dubai

The Blacksmith is an American smokehouse restaurant located inside the Wyndham Hotel, Dubai Marina. It specializes in smoked meats and Southern favorites. Think chicken wings, beef short rib, shrimp po’ boy not to mention my personal favorite Beef Brisket. It’s a mid-week evening when a friend and I have an early reservation and I’m surprised to see quite a few tables occupied. The ambiance is moody with dark leather seating and circular light features overhead. I noticed a fairly large terrace outside complete with a smoker which would perfect for those cooler Dubai months. Inside the restaurant they are playing a mix of classic American country music which my old boss would of loved. Our waiter hands us the menu which covers only two pages and informed us of a few items which are unavailable. We’re given some recommendations including Armadillo Eggs for a starter and the BBQ Short Rib for the main, however these end up being our least favorite dishes. Instead we prefer the smoked chili rubbed wings which come with an unnecessary ranch dressing in my opinion as the sauce is so good on its own, you don’t need to add another. Although I would have liked to of seen an option of buffalo wings on the menu too. The Texas Brisket Sandwich was gigantic. I almost needed to of fasted for the week leading up to this dinner as there’s no way between the two of us we could have finished the Man sized portion. Layers and layers of smoked brisket, complete with onions, pickled chili green beans, with a tangy white sauce, its what carnivores’ dreams are made of. Not sure how we managed to keep any space for dessert but we tried their golden Oreo banana pudding complete with a vanilla custard and the Flaming Jack Daniel’s Pecan Pie. I was expecting something involving lighters & flames when I saw the name but it arrived with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on top. It was my first time ever having pecan pie and my goodness it was good. It was like eating a nut brittle inside a chewy pastry base and the vanilla ice cream on top balanced out the caramelized filling perfectly. Would definitely order this dessert again! The Blacksmith claims to be the best smokehouse in town and I have no doubt in it. They serve some great bbq and other dishes along with mouth watering drinks and desserts to the Dubai folks after its opening few days back. It is located at Wyndham Dubai Marina, with a great outdoor area and indoor. We also had live music in the background to enjoy a perfect weekend. Started off with two instagram worthy drinks, Blue colada and strawberry mango Hawaiian. Both were refreshingly smooth and loved the flavors of both. I loved the blue colada which is quite similar to the classic pina colada with a touch of blue curacoa. For starters we had, Chicken tenders served with creamy honey mustard. It was crispy and fried perfectly. Stuffed smoked mushroom with veggies. This is a great option for vegetarians and the non-veg will also love it because of the mushroom stuffed with cheddar and roasted veggies. We also tried the Sliders which had three types mainly Shrimp Po boy,Beef brisket , pulled chicken. It was basically croissant filled with shrimps, chicken and beef. All three were exceptional and would love to go back for more. Dusted fries - Fries dusted with some spices. Loved it. BBQ lamb short ribs - Its a dish that we tried out of the menu which is a perfect one for meat lovers with big appetite. It is smoked to perfection low and slow for 10 hours and drizzled with white smith sauce.Be cautious of getting your hands and face dirty... BBQ apricot duck breast- A fast seller here , pan seared duck breast is smoked with apricot extract and smoked again to a caramelized perfection. It was served medium rare. A higly recommended dish here. Finally, for desserts we had Golden oreo banana pudding which was a simple one made with banana and golden oreo. The Southern part of Dubai Marina was never known for the gastronomy or nightlife. Squeezed between high-rise and a popular neighbours like Jumeirah Beach, it used to be home to families and young office mates. Even tourists barely made it here. The situation changed with the opening of the very affordable, cosy and friendly Wyndham hotel.

Focused on bringing together the local community for after hours and weekend entertainment, Wyndham’s team shows strong commitment to organizing exciting events. Just a few nights ago a fantastic new smoke house opened its doors and chimneys to a curios crowd. I was very lucky to witness it.

Blacksmith is easy to find. Just trust your nose. The air around the restaurant is deliciously smoky with irresistible notes of wood and fire. Irresistible to the point that a ride one floor up in an elevator seemed endless and made me dream of the upcoming dinner. My night started with a sip of rich red at the bar right next to the entrance. The bartender wanted to mix something very special for me but anticipating an intense dinner I decided to stick with the classics.

Orelle Young chef de cusinine and pitmaster made an appearance looking awesome in very manly apron holding a long pointy hook. One of those chefs who immediately establishes: “You are in for a treat.”

Everything I tried: chicken wings generously coated in black pepper sauce, pulled beef with red chillies, ribs and jerk chicken was absolutely exceptional. Tasty, smoky, well flavoured and well spiced, I could feel how much love and soul got invested into every piece. My only complain it was quite impossible to stop and so I didn’t.

Apart from eating, I danced to all time favourite American songs and music. Wyndham’s food and beverage manager participated in a one man show eating the spiciest chicken wings in the world and the audience didn’t hold back with cheers and applauds. The best...
