I'd been personally recommended Bandit by at least 4 different friends (one of whom stopped mid-conversation on our walk to point it out as we passed). This is a place for people who prioritise the quality of their coffee and baked goods above all else.
The barista was very kind and helpful, and made a cortado that was so exquisite, I literally had to stop within a few paces of leaving the shop just to savour and finish the drink right then and there. I don't normally opt for oatmilk--and anyone who has worked in coffee before can tell you how challenging it can be to steam--but this barista made it look like child's play. I was genuinely floored with the drink, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
The vibe and atmosphere is very relaxed and comfortable. It's a very simple and pragmatic setup that offers a very genuine and inclusive space. It is not curated to appear in a manner that seems pandering to coffee enthusiasts; rather the only products and artwork that adorn the walls are things which reflect its mission and personality--nothing seems unnecessary or excessive. Although I prefer this simple aesthetic, a few potential customers popped in briefly to look around and left without ordering. I'm unsure if it was the limited seating, the empty bakery shelves (most things had already been sold out by then), or the casual energy of the space, but they seemed unimpressed. It's a shame they didn't actually stay to give the coffee a try, but the workers seemed unphased, so I wonder if that happens fairly often.
If you're looking for amazing coffee and good people, this is absolutely the place. If you're looking for a chic aesthetic to bring a date or write a paper, I'd recommend ordering...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you find yourself in Aberdeen and donāt go to Bandit Bakery, you might need to rethink your priorities. I stopped by and walked straight into a small batch carbohydrate dream. The star of the show? A Hot Cross Concha, a brilliant mashup of classic spiced bun and pillowy Mexican sweet bread. Somehow nostalgic and new all at once, like your nan moved to Mexico City and got very into baking.
Washed it down with a flat white made with The Rocket Summer from Dark Arts Coffee, bright, fruity, and just a touch chaotic (in the best way). It danced between juicy berry notes and citrus sparkle, like someone squeezed an orange over a vinyl record and called it third wave. A bold choice, and one that absolutely worked.
The vibe at Bandit is charmingly scrappy, cozy, confident, and full of personality, just like the menu. A little punk, a little pastry cult, all heart. Highly recommend if youāre into carbs with a sense of humor and coffee that doesnāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLiterally the best and only bakery in Aberdeen who figured how to make great, amazing, best sourdough bread ever. We moved from Denmark and are somewhat spoiled when it comes to pastry and bread, and for the first few months here in UK we were Literally starving at lunch times (you have to eat open sandwich for lunch and it HAS TO BE A GOOD BREAD, not this tesco paper-tasting thing sorry). But then our Danish mother in law came over to visit, googled it and here we are, ready to pray and burst in happy tears cause Bandit's bread is really really REALLY good. Our fav is seeded sourdough, salt and pepper wheat loafs, all foccachias (you need to be up early to get one, they sold out VERY fast) and cinnamon buns! If you go - check the opening times and days, they are only open few days a week. But they are truly the best bakers in town. Warning! It is addictive, their...
