Last Sunday, my friends and I decided to drive to Aberdeen, which took about 1 hour and 30 minutes, to try out this Bengali restaurant we’d heard about. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing.

When we arrived, we ordered some starters and a single chicken meal. The waiter, however, made things uncomfortable right from the start by asking us overly personal questions about where we’re from and how long we’ve been in the country. He then proceeded to tell us, oddly enough, that he was “the mafia of Italy.” My friends and I exchanged puzzled looks and chose to brush it off.

The real issues began when our main course arrived. Despite ordering one meal, the waiter brought us two. When we pointed out the mistake, he insisted that we’d ordered two meals. We didn’t want to argue, so we agreed to manage with what was served. His attitude, however, took a turn for the worse, telling us, “Don’t be clever with me.” It was clear he wasn’t interested in providing good service.

To make matters worse, we had ordered four naan, but only two arrived. When we politely reminded him to bring the other two, he responded with an annoyed tone, saying we should have ordered everything together—although we had. Throughout the night, his behavior seemed off, making us wonder if he might have been drinking.

By the end of the meal, our experience was already soured. The only saving grace was the owner, who approached us after we paid and kindly offered us complimentary tea, which was appreciated. The owner and other staff were friendly and polite, showing a clear contrast to the waiter.

Advice for Management: If you’re aiming to build a good reputation, please reconsider hiring staff who don’t seem to understand the importance of customer service. One staff member’s behavior can ruin an entire dining experience.

Thank you for the gesture of the tea, but unfortunately, our evening had already...

I placed an order online with just eat for delivery. The order was accepted by the restaurant and I was given a delivery time of 6:30pm. The order did not arrive until 8:02pm. I called the restaurant 4 times for an update on the order. Every time I was passed around to 3 or 4 different people and advised that the order would be with me in “5 to 7 minutes”. 1.5 hours later the order arrived. Freezing cold and wrong. I ordered chicken pakora I received a mixture of 1 onion bhaji, 1 chicken pakora and 2 mushroom pakoras. I called the restaurant to advise that the food was cold and the order was incorrect. The restaurant was uninterested and repeatedly told me to contact just eat, just contact just eat. They also advised that I should have ordered directly with them. They would take no accountability as apparently the food “had went out on time” and they were “very busy with orders”. Eventually they agreed that I would get a full refund for the order through just eat. I applied for a full refund which the restaurant then refused with a message saying “The restaurant isn't going to give you any money back for your delayed order. They say: "We're really sorry your order wasn't delivered on time. We hope you enjoyed your food." No need to lie or go back on your word when you have agreed to offer a refund! The service was shocking - an Indian is not a cheap takeaway either - so it was a complete waste of time. Do not waste your time, there are plenty of other great Indians in Aberdeen including wild ginger and 8848. Both are far superior in terms of quality and...

I have ordered from this restaurant before and it was excellent so when my flatmate and me came home from work tonight we decided to order from here again. They advertised that they were open on the delivery app until 2345 and so we placed an order at around 2300. Within 5 minutes of having placed the order, the restaurant phoned me asking if I could cancel my order as they were shut. If a customer cancels their order they would not get their money back and I told that to the staff member on the phone. I then asked if they could cancel it on their end so I could be refunded and the employee, after a bit of back and forth arguing that they wouldn't/couldn't do that, hung up the phone midway through one of my replies. We still don't have an update as to whether we will be refunded or not as the restaurant hasn't cancelled our order and wouldnt answer the phone again when i phoned back. It's unfortunate as we were looking forward to similar service and food that I have received in the past and I hope that going forward the restaurant can update their delivery information and customer...

Terrible service. We ordered the tandoori tiger prawns starter which was £10, as part of our order and it arrived in a tiny foil dish with some sad looking, old vegetables, tiny prawns and completely bland. When we called up to complain, the rude man on the phone responded with “to be honest sir, prawns are expensive, I can’t help you”. I have never heard this from a restaurant before, I was gobsmacked at how rude they are and how little they care. You clearly don’t give a crap, you need to close your doors. There’s plenty of Indian restaurants in Aberdeen who still care about their reputation and their food quality.

Food is good, ambience satisfactory, service is good and staff is friendly.Though the name is Light of Bengal, it served food from all over India, even Goan Dishes.Met the owner Ahmed a nice friendly mate, full of wit and humour.Very Popular and well patronised. I would have called it Light of India. If you ever go there and want some real Bengali dishes first speak to Ahmed.

Still my favorite Indian restaurant in aberdeen. The people working there are all nice and friendly. After eating there a few times they remember you which makes the visit even more comfortable. Food is always good and it is worth to leave the choice if the food to the waiter! Just let him know what meat and how hot you like the food and let him decide the rest.
