Bhan Thai — Restaurant in Aberdeen City

A hidden gem in Aberdeen. I visited for lunch on Saturday and was upset to see how quiet it was. It’s so important to support local businesses. Bhan Thai offers fantastic authentic Thai food in the centre of Aberdeen. I was given a complimentary basket of prawn crackers to start whilst scanning the menu. I ordered Tom Yum soup which arrived at the table promptly. It was packed with flavour and there was plenty of chicken! I also had the the Chicken with Cashew Nuts. This dish was served with rice. The chicken was coated in a light batter which was lovely and crispy. The portion was a decent size and the rice came at no extra cost. The sauce was mild but tangy. Everything was so tasty. I was so full I struggled to finish it all, which is a really good sign. I couldn’t reccomend Bhan Thai enough. I will return soon for dinner. I want to try the Thai papaya salad. Food is good, service is terrible.

Went in to try something new on a Saturday night. The only other table in was a big group of drunk lads. Shouted and harassed us from across the room the whole evening. The waitress was polite and courteous and apologies profusely for their behaviour but the manager didn’t want to do anything about it. When asked to see the manager he wouldn’t even come out and talk to us. Manager clearly prioritising their money. Would have loved to speak to the manager and ask him why their money was any better than ours and why he prioritised their experience. Embarrassing from the manager. Can’t fault the food but won’t be back due to the service.

Would like to make it clear that this had nothing to do with the waitress....

Epic Fail on my part.

How have I lived in Aberdeen for 31 years but never experienced Bhan Thai before now, especially when they’ve been open for nearly 20!?

A the saying goes “a picture paints a thousand words” and hey, just look at this food!

I can assure you that it is true and authentic Thai, tweaked by the 🇹🇭 Chef upon request, to reflect the diners desired 🌶️ levels and WOW! what a taste crescendo this selection of dishes served up.

It’s a must try experience and great value too, three of us ate heartily and washed 6 large (650ml) Changs down between us - for a little over a hundred pounds.
