Ever had those meticulously planned restaurant outings that, despite your best intentions, end up being forgettable? Well, our evening at Heavenly Desserts on Union St. was the unexpected plot twist we didn't see coming. Picture a freezing 9:30 pm, a failed attempt at appreciating outdoor light installations, and a promise to Jules of a warming coffee; stumbling upon a bright, Americana-styled waffle haven that smelled like toffee and caramel….cue the sweet surrender.
In this sugar-coated universe, families, students, couples, and groups sat happily in the warm glow of caramelising sugar, complemented by an ensemble of efficient and friendly staff. The menu, a dazzling array of waffles and ice creams, lacked any savoury distractions, initially feeling both novel and even limiting. But hold your dessert spoons, because this place redefined my expectations.
The manager, our guiding light through this confectionary galaxy, unfolded the menu with contagious enthusiasm. Forget the preconceived notions; this wasn't just another dessert joint. Heavenly Desserts takes its food game as seriously as those expensive restaurants up the west end. Yes, desserts with pedigree.
Our choice? A croffle – a non-sweetened, freshly baked croissant, generously topped with raspberries and luxurious vanilla ice cream, plus a sidekick of pistachio ice cream. Genius move, Heavenly Desserts, pure genius.
Now, let's talk about the staff. A manager who made us feel like VIPs, and waiting staff who were both efficient and omnipresent without crossing into our dessert-loving personal space. This place is a symphony of well-run precision, serving outstanding desserts in an ambient and utterly relaxing atmosphere.
As if to seal the deal, the coffee they served is an outstanding blend.
In conclusion, five stars and a directive: You must experience this sugar-coated haven on every trip to Aberdeen. Consider your dessert game...
Read moreOn the entering we were impressed with the decor however the place is severely let down by poorly trained staff. After being seated with menus we sat for 15 min, I had to ask a member of staff who was leaving if they could take our order. After ordering another member of staff came over to say the dessert was not available, she did offer us menus again but we declined and said we would just have to two coffees we ordered. When the coffee arrived we were asked if we wanted sugar. We asked for sugar and sweetener. This took a couple of minutes, it was irritating that we had our coffees sitting and the waitress proceeded to take a bill payment before delivering the sugar/sweetener. 5 min later the original waitress arrived with the dessert we had originally ordered however by this point we did not want it. I explained that we were informed it was not available and she proceeded to say the other waitress didn’t know what she was talking about. The staff seem to be out of their depth, tables were not cleared in a timely fashion and had issues using their tablets to place orders. It was hard to get any member of staffs attention and I had to ask for the bill. When the bill arrived the dessert was still on the bill and we had to wait again for it to be removed. Overall it was not an enjoyable experience, the place has great potential to be a fantastic addition to Union Street however at the price point being charged staff require more training. We visited at 3pm on Wednesday and only at a...

We recently visited Heavenly Desserts and were pleasantly surprised by the modern, vibrant interior. The bright pink chairs and sleek new furniture gave the space a fun and fresh atmosphere that stands out compared to most cafes in the area. It definitely makes an impression!
As for the food, it was a bit of a mixed experience. I ordered the pancakes with strawberries and chocolate, which I really enjoyed — well-presented and delicious. My friend had the plant pot dessert, which looked interesting but didn’t live up to expectations in terms of taste. It was mostly broken-up Oreos with a sauce that didn’t quite work for her palate, especially considering the price.
The milkshakes were good – nothing exceptional, but enjoyable. We also tried a set of three macarons. One tasted quite artificial, but the other two were lovely and light.
Service was okay. The staff weren’t rude or inattentive, but there wasn’t much engagement either – polite but not particularly warm.
Overall, it’s a stylish spot that might appeal more to those who are big on desserts and presentation. We didn’t love it, but we didn’t hate it either. A decent experience, though not one we’re...
