I have seen this restaurant many times while wandering towards Parade garden’s and until now never went in. However on this occasion I made a special plan to visit and partake in their lunch menu.
The staff were very welcoming and handed the lunch menu, after a short while the waitress returned to take our order my companion opted for a starter called salad kheak Thai style salad with lettuce, cucumber, tomato and slices of egg, topped with peanut sauce, I went for Tom Khaa, a coconut milk soup with galangal, mushrooms and lemongrass. The dishes arrived together and in just the right amount of waiting time to show they were freshly prepared, also the waitress asked if we would like drinks with the foods or if we preferred to have a jug of tap water. It's nice to be asked and offered this free option.
My friends salad looked very well presented and colourful and had a wonderful flavoursome peanut dressing, my Tom Khaa was just as tasty.
After the starters I popped outside for a cigarette and returned just as the waitress was coming over to get our main course order. My choice was to try Phad Phed , My friend went for the classic Phad Thai.
Both did not disappoint, my dish was well seasoned and delivered the kick I wanted by adding the extra chill, This dish was wonderful and I could have eaten more even though I was full. My friends Phad Thai was perfectly executed and the spice just right.
I would definitely recommend Salathai, for food and service and the name lives up to the Thai definition of “a...
Read moreSlightly disappointed with this one. We came for a weekend trip and fancied thai. Prebooked for dinner because the reviews looked really good. We had thai fish cakes for starter and then a Thai green chicken curry and chicken masaman curry for mains. Unfortunately for starters, I was expecting flakes of whole fish in the fish cake - instead the texture was the smooth processed fish "paste". This could be how it is, but it just wasn't what I was expecting. Flavour was okay, but you get 4 round flat pieces which were slightly bigger than a £2 coin. Then for mains, the veg was cooked well and the flavour was pretty good, but the chicken in both dishes were overcooked and quite dry and chewy. And for my Thai green curry, the coconut milk was quite thin - similar to how I'd make it at home if using reduced fat coconut milk. I've certainly had much better elsewhere, and I hate to say it, but made better at home. But they were all very friendly, it seems very popular as we went at 6.30 and it was already half full! And we got served quickly. I personally wouldn't choose to eat here again, but it isn't "bad", it was just slightly better than mediocre. Unfortunately we never got asked how the food was after being served, so we couldn't give any feedback as after we had to rush off. Maybe we just chose the...
Read moreWe stopped here for lunch because we saw there were a lot of people eating here. Sadly the food did not live up to our expectations. We were married in Thailand and have spent a lot of time traveling in that country. The food here is definitely not representative of Thai food. I ordered the papaya salad. It had a brown sauce on it and the chili tasted like some kind of chili powder you would get from a bag despite the presence of fresh Thai chilis in the dish. There was no dried shrimp and very little peanuts. I didn’t finish it and I would not recommend this dish. My husband had the Panang curry with chicken. There was more chicken fat than actual chicken and lots of dried. Chili flakes, the type you would get in an Italian restaurant to put on your pizza. The curry was more like a gravy and didn’t have the flavor of a panang curry at all. I’m not sure why this restaurant has the higher rating it has (4.8) but if you like Thai food and have eaten Thai food in the past you’d do well to stay away. This will not satisfy you at all. I’m sorry to say this is the worst Thai restaurant I have...
