The starters were good. But not well described on the menu. One was “fried halloumi” and under that it said with mushrooms, salad, salsa and balsamic reduction. You expect the dish to be mostly halloumi. It was mostly a bowl of fancy salad with a scattering of halloumi on top. Also halloumi should be served hot otherwise it gets squeaky before you finish eating- it was served warm and was getting a bit squeaky by the last couple of bits.
We both had cod and chips for our mains. £21 each but I figured it must be worth it since it’s award winning. Nope.
It comes with mushy peas- which had clearly been sat in their little bowls a long time as it had gone very dry and crusty over the top- there were even cracks in the dry crust top.
The fish was okay but small. And it was pre-salted. I don’t like salty things so I had to take the batter off it for it to be edible because of the salt- and they still provided salt to add yourself. My boyfriend who likes salt enjoyed it though, but expected a bigger portion for £21. You could get double the size at a regular chippy.
The chips were good but a small portion.
The tartare sauce tasted bland.
On top of that, service was terrible.
We had multiple different people serving us so when we asked for a few more minutes to decide after ordering drinks, we had barely 30 seconds until a different server asked us.
One server collected our dishes from the starters and asked us if we wanted dessert, not realising we hadn’t had mains yet. Asked if we wanted anything else but left before having a chance to order more drinks.
The mains were delivered with one pot of ketchup between two of us. It wasn’t even that we needed more ketchup- we just needed it split between two pots for practically of eating. So we asked for another little dish of ketchup and more drinks. The drinks arrived with someone who asked if they were our drinks (seemingly confused about which table it was for). I don’t know if anyone ever brought out the extra ketchup but when we left, it still hadn’t arrived.
Oh and one server who we think was a trainee wasn’t sure about taking a drink order. He was going to get someone else to do it until he realised they were busy.
Very helpful getting us seated at first (in a wheelchair so not easy) but then as soon as we paid, we were on our own finding a way through the tables which involved asking...

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Review:
I recently embarked on a road trip across Ireland, driving from Dublin to Belfast, and I must say, dining at this standalone seafood restaurant was an absolute delight! It easily surpassed even some of the 5-star hotels I had the pleasure of visiting during my journey.
The moment I tasted the Japanese Oysters, I was blown away by their exceptional freshness and tantalizing flavor. Each bite was a testament to the impeccable quality of the seafood served here. The squids were equally impressive, prepared to perfection and bursting with delectable taste.
For our main course, we opted for the Haddock fish and chips, as well as the sea bass dishes. Both choices exceeded our expectations in every way. The Haddock fish and chips were flawlessly cooked, boasting a delightful crunch on the outside while maintaining tender, flaky fish on the inside. As for the sea bass, its succulent texture and harmonious blend of flavors left us longing for more.
The overall dining experience was truly remarkable. The ambiance of the restaurant was inviting, and the service was top-notch, ensuring our needs were met with utmost care and attention. The staff members were friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about their craft, enhancing the entire experience.
In conclusion, if you're a seafood lover seeking an extraordinary culinary adventure, I highly recommend visiting this establishment. From the incredible freshness of the Japanese Oysters to the mouthwatering Haddock fish and chips and sea bass dishes, every aspect of our meal was outstanding. This seafood restaurant deserves nothing less than five stars, and I can't wait to return on my next...
Read moreVisited 05/01/2023 to eat in at lunch time, met by Barry as we entered who met our needs and sat us downstairs and obtained a high chair for our granddaughter who came with. Service was spot on and food came quickly and as you can see from the pictures well presented
I loved the unlimited chips option with the fish n chips. I’d say the mushy peas portion that comes with is a tad small, luckily the eldest didn’t want hers so all good 👍🏽 but if your not so lucky I’d order some more to enjoy the meal more.
The vegetarian Thai Green Curry was flavoursome and not too big a spicy kick 👌🏽🍛 also the portion is a great size and definitely fulfilling.
One thing to add an international customer came later and sat nearby and Barry offered to get the menu translated, now that folks is another level of service I’ve certainly not experienced before and he was back in a flash with a tablet ready to translate, luckily the customers already used google translate and we’re away but this has stuck with me around a natural non forced way of service to a customer and for me absolute winner 🏆
I have been before but never during day, usually in evening so menu was smaller but loved Fish City and will continue to visit when over in Northern Ireland visiting family, highly...
