I've seen mixed reviews for this independent so here is a fair review from my latest visit. The delicious food is a mix of Vietnamese cuisine (if you know what to order) and Vietnamese fusion. The vegetarian, vegan, pescetarian offerings are exceptional and so much better than when they first opened several years ago - the menu is literally unrecognisable. We tried the turmeric fish noodle plate, tofu curry, vietnamese salad, peanut marmite cauliflower wings, courgette special, aubergine special, salt & pepper tofu - it was some of the best food i've ever eaten. The carnivores in our group also ordered lots of the meat specials (pork ends, bbq chicken, pork belly,) and were raving about their food.
We received exceptional service from good humoured and patient waiters. Be aware there is an open kitchen so the smells from it can linger on clothing/hair. Also some of dishes (the noodle plates) are cooked at room temperature as is traditional, and mentioned on the menu. The atmosphere is loud, busy, casual, lively - just like in Vietnam! We had neurodiverse people in our group, and they were fine with their Loop earplugs. If you know what to expect and love tasty food with loads of options, do give it a try - highly...
Read moreAttended the restaurant on Saturday Oct 7th and was shocked how bad the service was here. When we first sat down to the table we could see that all the spoons had not been cleaned properly and had the remnants of someone else’s food left on them, we asked a staff member to replace them which they did.
In total there were six of us, after ordering the meals five mains arrived and the last one did not arrive until the other five people had finished eating. On top of this they forgot to bring out an ordered side dish until everyone had finished eating and reminding them more than once. The service was so poor and the staff appear to be under trained.
The food tasted good but for the price and portion sizes I’d much rather visit somewhere with better service, authenticity and without the feeling of being rushed. Considering the cost of the mains at £18 - £19 you expect the service to be on top. However, this was not the case and they were constantly reminding us that we had to leave the table after 1 hour had passed and making us feeling rushed from start to finish.
Based on the above most of us that attended agreed we would not...

If Eat Vietnam is a key ingredient to creating Stirchley’s bohemian, retro, vibe. From the outside, you could dismiss this comfortable restaurant as an old sweat shop. Look a little closer, the shop front is a work of retro art. Even though it’s an independent, it has it’s own tag line “fish sauce is not for everyone”. Enter and the behold the cool advertisements. Staff attended to me, given my sheepish, lost demeanour. I was taken to browse the extensive specials blackboard. The staff member walked me through the board of exciting dishes. Such is the range, it can be overwhelming. In many ways, I love. I ordered the mala cauliflower, hispi cabbage and Salt & Pepper Turmeric Fried Fish Noodles. Each dish was so fresh, light and vibrant. The mala cauliflower had bite & crunch. The light curry sauce complemented the dish sensationally. I felt well looked after by the staff. All meals were served expediently. Even the chefs popped over to serve the food. I highly recommend Eat Vietnam. An exciting western take on...
