My recent visit to Vegabond, the charming wine bar nestled in the heart of the city, left me with an overall wonderful impression. From the warm and inviting staff to the unique self-service concept, Vegabond offers an experience that's both enjoyable and memorable.

Wine price range is on the expensive side. I enjoy Shiraz wines and opted for the cheapest option which was £8 for a medium glass.

Upon entering Vegabond, I was greeted by the friendly staff who went out of their way to make me feel at home. They took the time to explain the innovative self-service system that allows patrons to select their desired wine, choose a glass size, make a quick payment, and with a simple push of a button, watch as the wine elegantly pours into the glass. This feature is not only convenient but also adds a sense of novelty to the entire wine-tasting experience.

The centerpiece of the bar, a captivating tree positioned prominently in the middle of the room, lends a unique and enchanting ambiance. The surrounding decor complements the natural theme, creating an atmosphere that's both cosy and sophisticated.

Wine glasses are placed directly beneath the dispensing machines, accompanied by a conveniently located water jug and tap for refills. This attention to detail enhances the user experience and encourages exploration of different wines at one's own pace.

Ordering food requires a visit to the till, and during my visit, I opted for the cheesecake listed at £6 on the menu. However, I was charged £6.75. This discrepancy, as I later discovered in fine print at the bottom of the menu, was attributed to a 12% service charge. While I'm more than willing to pay for exceptional service, I believe transparency in pricing is crucial. Displaying the full price prominently would alleviate any sense of ambiguity and ensure that the customer know exactly what to expect.

In conclusion, Vegabond Wine Bar offers an enchanting and innovative wine-tasting experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression. The attentive staff, self-service wine dispensing, and captivating atmosphere make it a must-visit for both wine enthusiasts and those seeking a unique night out.

Come for wine, stay for the platters.

I visited to Vagabond for the food. Why did I choose a bar that specialised in wines for food? In January they are offering 50% off food when you pre-book. Before I booked my table I thought I'd nose their menu. It is surprisingly exciting giving it's focus is wine, Mediterranean in flavour: Tapas, meat and cheese platters and loads of finger foods. There are excellent vegan options too. The finger food dishes are colourful, full of flavour and served quickly. If I had to choose a favourite, it would be the hummus dip with the crispy sourdough. They complementary flavours and textures remind me of the band Rage against the machine: powerful Rock fused with melodious hip hop. The high ceiling interior is classy. It is a beautiful mix of wood, indoor flora and neon lighting. There are loads of places to sit. There is a variety of settings: High and low light settings. High tables, cushioned benches, small bar tables. The service was superb. There may have been niggles with ordering on their high tech ordering system, but we got there in the end:) Mariana, a humble, smiley Portuguese waitress was happy to converse on the matter of good food. It's great to see Birmingham attract businesses like Vagabond, a quality well established, upmarket, modern business. The business it replaced, some Mexican takeaway eatery, paled in comparison. It is located on Colmore row, perfect for the high class business customers it desires.

Welcome to Birmingham

p.s. I need to return to try the coffee. Vagabond Wines have the perfect setup for their establishment: Coffee beans by Origin Roastery, Vitoria Arduino grinder, La Marzocco Linea Mini espresso machine. With the right barista at the helm, beautiful coffee is...

Our second time here and we will be coming back for a third visit! We were served by Meg tonight who was very attentive and made sure we were well looked after. Vagabond had a lovely ambience, with super friendly and helpful staff and fabulous food (shout out to the hanger steak and chimichurri). Importantly, the chance to try samples of wine before committing to a whole glass is a great idea and the choice of wines offers good variety for the palette. It’s probably not the cheapest night out ever (some wines are quite pricey for a sample / glass) but there’s enough variety that you can hopefully try other things at different price points. The only note is that we have been wanting to try the duck on our last 2 visits but it’s been sold out - a little frustrating but everything else on the menu made up for it and I guess it can be forgiven when they’re not a mega chain. My only point was that there was a sauce substitution on one of the dishes due to availability and we weren’t told beforehand - we had to query what the sauce was when it came out because it wasn’t what we expected (due to allergies this is important!) It was cleared up but this should be dealt with beforehand. Definitely a new favourite place of ours and we’ll be coming back for more wine and...

First time here, last time here. Staff was friendly. Wine was good, but expensive (average 125ml glass 8-9pounds). The food was not terrific at all but tremendously expensive these 2 plates in the picture (“large” cheese plate to share and small meat plate to share) costed in total 40 pounds. The amount of food in the plates for its cost (and quality, as in some pickles and bread) was RIDICULOUS. The whole night for 3-4 glasses of wine and this “food” was 70pounds in total. Not all is lost friends, there are other options, in Birmingham I recommend Loki which for the half of the price you’ll get the same things, food maybe better. Another choice is, go to Morrisons for “Mediterranean olives”, a “casillero del Diablo” Cabernet Sauvignon , some bread of choice, order cheese from “queso!” Online and some meat board from the supermarket and candles to enlighten the night in home - you’ll get 5x times better quality food and and 5 times cheaper. I’m sorry of this outrageous review, I’m just too mad. The insane price and little amount of cheese on this plate hasn’t just been ridiculous and sad, but the next level.
