Pepe's — Restaurant in Bolton

This branch is really starting to slack. They have no structure whatsoever. E.g: on 3 occasions i asked what portion size are the chips and was told it doesn’t go according to size that it’s just £2.39 for a “normal portion” so explain to me why the first time I was given a very generous LARGE portion. Second time extremely small portion (comparable to McDonald’s small portion of chips) - I also remember asking at The till how much would it be for a bit more chips and they tried to charge me another £2.39?! and third time was just ridiculous (not in a good way!). dont understand how I’m paying the same amount of money for various portions of chips put in different bags and classified as “normal portion”. Another issue was with the loyalty cards .. I thought I had lost one of mine so when I placed an order I told them and said take another one. Went in the shop the other day to claim my free half chicken as I had found my other loyalty cards and presented both and kindly asked them to transfer the stamps so I’d have just one loyalty card. And started giving stories about how they are ”changing the policy” over some silly loyalty card that really isn’t a big deal. I spent money in that shop on MANY occasions and deserved to claim my free food. Standards in this branch are dropping which is a shame as the food is actually lovely. However if this persists I would just rather take myself, co workers and everyone else I recommended it to back to Nando’s. Not even worth the hassle...

Really sad to say, but absolutely cannot recommend this place. Took my son here and honestly, for the money, the quality of food is awful. My portion of fries in an adult meal was smaller than the kids one, the burger had fat and chewy gristle in. Despite asking for no mayo I got a tub of garlic mayo and when I asked for a ketchup sachet, I was rationed and my 2nd time up was told "this is the last one." That's customer service apparently. Forgive me if I don't overpay for truly awful food cooked in a visible kitchen that doesn't look the cleanest, with a scattering of tables and chairs haphazardously scattered around, and 2hich hadn't been wiped down by 2pm after the lunchtime rush was over. My golden rule is avoid anywhere rated under 4 when there are a substantial number of reviews, and boy does that hold out here. Overpriced Dirty Bizarre portions - hack get a kids meal for a stack of fries, pay for adults get way less. Bad customer service from staff that don't listen to you when you order, and get stingy with the cheapest catering grade ketchup sachets when you don't want the giant tub of garlic mayo you hoped to avoid when the order was Co firmed "no mayo" A maccas, granted not cuisine by any stretch, is delivered in a cleaner more professional environment for around 30% less. And trust me I hate recommending that place...

I went to Pepe's Bolton for the first time on the 9th August 2021 as a party of 10. Contrary to quite a number of reviews here, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of almost everything about this particular Pepe's.

Firstly, the location is very convenient as it's in the basement of The Vault situated in the town centre. It has a nice ambiance and is definitely of a higher quality in terms of decor than any other Pepe's I've been to.

Secondly, regarding the food. Again, I didn't expect the food to be as good as it was given some of the mediocre reviews. We ordered 2 portions of wings, 2 mighty mex sandwiches, a 1/2 chicken and a waffle chicken plus peri fries, rice and sweet potato fries. Everything was at least an 8/10 with the exception of the rice which I'd give a 6/10. I personally think the wings were outstanding and also the Mighty Mex sandwich. The waffle chicken is an acquired taste with the combination of sweet and savory but is positively unique.

Lastly, regarding the price. It is slightly on the pricier side but as this Pepe's is a marquee Pepe's in terms of decor and food quality (many items are only found at this branch), you get what you pay for. If you fancy a change from Nandos or you just want quality food then I would strongly recommend...
