Tonight four of us had a delicious dinner Jinnah Bistro Saltaire! I had paneer tikka to start which came in lovely big chunks and was light & fluffy, well spiced and a lovely crispy outside, I would have liked a little bit more salad on the side though. I tried my partner's chicken tikka starter and the chicken was really incredibly juicy & tender!
My main was a really gorgeous fish curry, the fish was soft & flaky, the sauce really flavoursome and I chose a delicious side of mushroom rice which was very tasty too! I ordered mango lassi to drink, this is only served by the litre jug but a bargain at £5.95 and enough for four to share!! I love that the curry comes served in lovely little metal dishes with a lid to keep them warm! The portions are generous but not over facing, you leave feeling full but not uncomfortably so!
The staff are friendly, cheerful and very welcoming and the service is fast and efficient! The decor is modern & trendy but the place still has a lovely casual & relaxed vibe. We dined indoors but there are also a few tables outside on the street too! It's a very small & compact restaurant so I definitely recommend booking ahead! The bill implied they only take cash so make sure that you go to the cash machine before you go!! The place also filled up fast and our table was needed back after 90 mins, so clearly a popular venue. Plenty of on street parking on the road outside (free after 4.30pm).
Intrigued to note that they open at 9am for breakfasts and id love to go and try one of those in the future!!
We finished our evening with a golden hour stroll around the picturesque village of Saltaire which is literally a few steps around...
Read moreFood was very nice, but plenty to improve on in my opinion.
Menu - very small, not sure if a lock down thing or just because it's a small venue, but even still half the curries were actually the same, just different meats. I feel you should just name it once and then name the different meats/fillings you can order.
Health/hygiene - bit disappointed. Came once restaurants opened up after initial COVID lock down. Waitress kept taking off her mask, defeating the point of wearing it. Half the take away staff coming in and out didn't have one either. Takeaway customers were allowed in and just stood around, defeating the 2m rule, feel like they should have had to wait outside (it was nice weather). Toilet didn't have paper towels in either to dry hands.
Food was very nice, but I was disappointed by a few things related to it. Firstly I felt the portion sizes were small compared to other curry places. Also, I order an Asian style curry and I was disappointed with the lack of spice - maybe I expected more and was underwhelmed as a result but felt it could have been spicier.
Price - I thought it was quite expensive actually for what you got, especially when I thought we got smaller portions anyway.
I think you could get a cheaper, bigger, better curry elsewhere, but I'm glad I tried...
Read moreI think unfortunately the restaurant has fallen for the same problem a few other local restaurants have around here, since the restaurant now offers a takeaway option the quality of food has declined due to the increase in customers. The starters were disappointing they were not fresh, the chicken seekh kebab I felt was warmed up it's texture was rubbery, the lamb chops were too fatty for us. The mains were worrying because myself and my wife ordered chicken and keema karhi, it was alright, just not a lot of taste, come the end of my curry I felt like I just wanted it over and done with, it was just okay. Given that the majority of the menu is karhi dishes I worry all the food is just as bland. Decent naan breads, nice and doughy. Its a shame because we came here a few years back and it was one of the best we've had, and we've...
