We tried this Chinese resraurant high up the Park Street, Bristol, Guoguoyan📍
As u can see nice location and aesthetically pleasing food but 0 customer assistance. We had the worst experience asking for a dish with vermicelli pasta and been suggested these similar soup noodle instead with beef due to unavailability. Bc is their most traditional dish the manager said it’s one of the best. The moment I took the 1st bite I felt like vomit ting due to crazily strong taste of the beef.
I had vermicelli with beef before but didn’t have any strong umbereable taste and smell.
I asked the waiter over and asked if possible to switch for another dry pasta chicken dish for the same price, if possible as we can’t eat this. It did not match his description. They wanted us to buy it when they had diff dishes forsame price. 😵💫I said no can u change it please? The manager came over he couldn’t even reassure me he said he will speak to kitchen and he returned with some plain tastlessnchicken chicken on a side plate to add instead of beef.😭😭
The soup tasted the same. There was no pointtttt! The ingredients already left their natural aroma in it. Plus when the waiter explained the situation to the manager they didn’t even speak English. Bit rude. At the end my girl said it’s okay I’ll take it as take away for my partner (maybe he likes it). Guess what? She had too cook that night, he didn’t like it either 😖and the restaurants staff did not even apologised, avoiding to look at me’ Like I don’t hate you but make sure you take 6 min to change the dish and the customer leave happy with a high chance of returning and suggesting it to routers too.
Any hospitality experience should be handled with more care ensuring customer satisfaction just like in retail where I work!
We felt traumatised only of thinking of that treatment after we left, ruining half...
Read moreI've ordered around 10 positions from menu and at the beginning it was 5/5 but after each dish I could feel the main "wow" effect was the super spicy oil which was absolutely everywhere and numbing from Sichuan pepper.
Each dish got tons of chilli oil and in fact it's covering the whole flavour of noodles or soups. If you will remove it, you will have very average dish.
I visited Chengdu Guoguoyan 5 times and each time I was ordering deep fried pork with chilli and Sichuan pepper. Each time was differently done (in the negative way) and only the first time it arrived hot. All other times it was already soggy and warm. It felt more like done a day ago and reheated on pan.
I think it's good place for students to quickly eat something a bit more authentic and for alright price but I will not recommend for...
Read moreGreat new and noteworthy Chinese restaurant in Bristol and my new favourite. Food is authentic and simple. The Chinese menu may be a bit hard to decipher for non-Chinese folks so I thought I’d give a few recommendations:
The Emei bamboo shoot and beef noodle soup is one of the best I have had in the UK. Fresh homemade wheat noodles are delicious.
The Old sichuan Dan Dan noodles are the same homemade wheat noodles with a peanut sauce and beef mince.
The oiled pork belly slices in Sichuan style garlic sauce is a great dish, hard to find here.
If you are feeling adventurous, the beef tripe in chilli oil (misspelled beef triple) is superb! Delicate texture with sharp chilli oil.
Handmade lemon tea is a must try! Made with jasmine tea, this drink is a perfect compliment to the spicy and...
