It's a shame to see dropped quality of food. Previously I could get a proper size meal but now it's a smaller portion, with very thin bread and not tasty combinations. I had Foliage Mezze and another meal (sorry, forgot the name: sourdough bread, lemon salsa, bunch of salad with tomatoes, red onion and capers). Both meals were not even close to the previously quality which Foliage was delivering over many years. It wasn't even tasty. Foliage Mezze included many small things like hummus, house pestos, salads etc but nothing was better than just "alright". The Foliage Mezze had a separate bread but it looked like like the left bread from other cuts and half of bread was left after focaccia (side of focaccia - no new, fluffy middle part) and very thin sourdough bread which was grilled and was extremely hard. Each time I was waiting nearly 25 minutes for my meal. The shop is still really small and it's hard to take a seat without hitting other customers chairs.

I'm really hope Foliage will improve the quality of food because currently it's really disappointing on many levels.

Original review from nearly 2 years ago: really nice shop with coffee! The price is pretty good and you can enjoy comfortable environment with a lot of plants. I will give it 5/5 if only the space for the table will be bigger and if it will be bigger space between tables (it's max 1 m and it's way not enough to sit...

have been going to this cafe since it opened and as someone who is coeliac have always appreciated that there are savoury gluten free options. Having had breakfast today however, now I am am at home and have looked again at the bill, I am saddened and surprised to have been charged 50p extra for having gluten free poached eggs on toast, i.e. 50p extra for having gluten free bread, which has never been the case in the past, nor does the extra charge appear on their menu. As someone who is coeliac I appreciate that gluten free bread may cost a little more but to be penalised in this way, particularly when the extra charge was not mentioned, seems unfair; it is bad enough being coeliac without this. Added to this, the person I was with had the same item but not on gluten free bread. His poached eggs were on two large pieces of sourdough bread. Mine were on two small pieces of gluten free bread which were the equivalent of one of the sourdough pieces. Again it seems very unfair that someone who is not gluten free should get half the amount of bread and apparently now be charged extra for it! To give three of the small pieces of the gluten free bread would surely be a positive gesture and good customer service; the charge made for poached eggs on toast could surely cover this. My experience today has taken me by surprise as in the past I have always had positive...

We have been here a few times and love it! The atmosphere is always really good and so are the staff. The food is usually very good too and they have vegan and gluten free options!

The only disappointing thing for me personally was the gluten free pancakes! I’ve tried lots of gluten free food here and I loved them, however I think the gluten free pancakes were a let down. This is only my personal opinion as I’ve tried many gluten free pancakes, but I feel because they are vegan they aren’t really pancakes, more like patties then anything. I did like the fruit on them though!

I understand it’s super hard for bakeries and cafe to cater to gluten free and vegan etc… but I feel most of the time they lump them both together! As someone who isn’t vegan, but is gluten free, I’d like the option to have actual pancakes rather than vg and gf, as to me they were more like patties and weren’t the greatest. However, someone who is vegan may absolutely love them as they are hard to come by! But I wish they were a bit better on the gf end☺️ just a personal opinion, loads of other people have loved them!

Other then that, which could be something to bare in mind, the cafe as ever was great and I’ll be coming back to try more gf food again! My boyfriend always has the poached egg on sourdough and adds halloumi or avocado and loves it🥰 will be...

We've been wanting to visit Foliage Cafe for AGES. It's a popular Clifton hangout and rightly so, with a great menu and an array of succulents and other attractive plants adorning the walls and ceiling. During our visit - perhaps subconsciously influenced by the surrounding greenery - we strayed slightly from our usual staple choices (latte, cappuccino, flat white... yawn) and opted for a matcha latte. It was great! Smooth, unsweetened and bursting with matcha flavour. We're converts. The food served at Foliage Cafe is also well regarded. Their menu includes typical cafe favourites such as cooked breakfasts, hearty sandwiches and sweet treats. Judging from our fellow customers' empty plates, this seems to be extremely well received. They also have shelves packed with loaves, tea and coffee, jams, chocolate and all manner of other tempting refreshments. In summary, as you may have guessed from what you've just read, we would highly recommend a visit to Foliage Cafe next time you're in Clifton. They're popular and you may have a short wait for a table, but it's justified. The food and drink are delicious and the atmosphere is charming. What's more, the friendly, unflustered staff complement the decor perfectly to cultivate a homely vibe that is sure to keep any green fingered coffee head happy. Enjoy!
