Arbitrary rules, lack of flexibility and unfriendly service.
The cafe was empty, it was a Wednesday afternoon, my wife and I came for a coffee and decided to look at some photos on my iPad of a recent event we attended. And we’re told we can’t sit on tables in the dimmer area because no “laptops” are allowed there. We wanted to be in the dimmer area so we could see the photos more clearly. We did the exact same thing with our phone instead (look at pictures) in the exact spot we can’t have laptops, but had an unnecessarily bad experience because the staff don’t have common sense and flexibility to apply the “rules” in the way they were intended. Which I assume is to prevent people spending all day working on the bigger tables when the cafe is busy (all of the larger tables were unoccupied when we were there). Again, we were only going to look at photos on our iPad for the duration it took to have our coffee.
Some feedback to help you not alienate future customers (we for sure won’t be returning despite living right around the corner)… If you’re going to be so pedantic about the rules they should at least reflect this in their signs and change it to no laptops OR tablets. But it would be better if their rules reflect the environment in the cafe - if it’s busy it makes sense to have no people spending hours working in there. If it’s empty, just take a chill pill and let a couple enjoy some photos on their bigger screen.
We would have left and gone somewhere else had we not already bought and started...
Read moreService not good, coffee is expensive, have now ostracized smokers in the front area. I've been using this cafe since it opened but will take my business elsewhere on North street now.
I am editing this as I cannot reply to your response.
I have posted here as well as FB as you failed to answer my question regarding how the front area differs from the area at the side of the building.
I had company at the time of my visit and I can assure you that there was NOT any shouting, abuse or anything distasteful about my complaint, your customer service is as good as your coffee and table service, I don't believe that you were there to witness this Jessie but you seem to know everything about it, perhaps you have some CCTV to prove your accusations?
I believe it is you who are being disrespectful to your customers in more way than one. This post was really about how a cafe that I liked now has a much lower quality of service than it ever has before.
You obviously have problems with any negative opinions on your business, perhaps that's why the corn street branch closed so quickly.
You do not have to worry about welcoming me, I haven't felt welcome in your cafe for some time now. Today I had a lovely coffee and piece of cafe at Southville Deli, saved myself 2 pounds and was allowed to smoke outside in the unenclosed area, I'd recommend it to anyone else who enjoys a coffee and a smoke without being pushed out of view.
Looking forward to seeing you keep this rule throughout the...
Read moreNice place to stop for a cuppa. They also do freshly-prepared hot food alongside their sandwiches, cakes and pastries. The menu isn't too big and every dish I've tried has been nice if slightly over-priced.
The atmosphere is relaxed, staff are all very friendly and service is pretty quick most of the time, but you might struggle to find a table at peak times, especially on Bristol City match days ... takeaway's always an option though.
I've updated my review from 5 stars to 4 because I've had quite a few bad coffees from Tincan lately where it's either been too cold, tasted burnt or just... wrong. Unfortunately they were all takeaways and I'd already left before I noticed but I'm sure they would have fixed it had I been able to take them back. The hot food has also declined a bit. Still good, but not great like...
