Visited for a social on the 17th June 2019. Never been here before. Had a look on Friday 5th June 2019 but couldn't get in even though I found it. Now I have been able to visit. For a first impression many positives. Air Conditioned, so cool even in this heat. No Sports being shown, a major positive, less noise, less rowdy. Much more space and plenty of light. The toilets were like visiting Harrods, immaculate. Small tables and chairs, made it easy to circulate and no feeling of being crushed in a crowd or pinned in a corner. A few minor points. The website doesn't give a favourable impression of the decor but I found it far better in practice. Didn't use the restaurant part or order any food, so no idea of that aspect. They do not give much information of what is available at the bar on the drinks menu from the website which is very strange and why I went to have a look if I could. No idea what Real Ales or Cask Mark Accredited anything were available no sign and a limited range on draught for a first impression. Heineken, Amstel and Guinness I noted. Service was pleasant and efficient and certainly not crowded at the time either. Prices are slightly more about 60p a pint more, £4.20 for Amstel, £4.80 for Heineken but again I note all charge a little more being City Docks, paying for the view and nearby water. Do keep in mind it is a more modern building in the style of a Docks Transit Shed. It is not a Waterside Public House like The Ostrich for instance. A good first impression so I would try it again.

Nice location with lots of tables (both inside and outside), average food and really bad service. Went there on a Sunday lunch, we entered the place and no one came to ask if we wanted to have a drink, eat or explain how the place worked. There were no more than 30 people around and we had to wait a long time to place our order. They tell you to download an app and after you have spent time doing so, the app doesn’t recognise the table number. So I had to go to the counter where there was 1 person taking orders and serving drinks at the same time. It took a good 10 minutes to serve 4 people. After placing the order we waited not too long for the food but when they brought it, one of the plates was not the one we asked for (it came out while placing the order, the waiter selected the wrong dish). They were pretty quick in bringing the right dish but then we had no cutlery, we had to ask for that and we were given 1 napkin for 2 people. The curry was nice, the wrap with fish finger pretty bland (nice fries though). The mini brownies were good, although they were supposed to come with strawberries and they did not. The churros were good but the Belgian chocolate dip tasted funny and we ended up eating churros without dip.

Came here for a Christmas meal with some of work lot. Ended up having to leave before my meal because there was not nearly enough room on the tables (I can't be bumping elbows), it was too loud for me to make conversation, the WiFi was shocking- I was told Smart by name not by nature haha. Couldn't even get a drink after the first because of huge queues at the bar and there was no water on the tables. I was told when I got the WiFi that the wait for drinks to order to tables was 25 minutes at least. I ordered one £7.75 for a glass of Prosecco (!) , then looked around, realized I'd had more conversation with the security at the door than was having at the table or wanted to have 🥱, felt overstimulated and underwhelmed AND THIRSTY AND HUNGRY... And left to get a smash burger and some nachos with my friend outside... And a mulled cider. I'm an if in doubt, ditch kinda person. First time in a Slug for a while, and it will be the last. Do like the look of the cocktail menu though. Might try and recreate one or two at home. Ta

A nightmare from the moment we stepped in. First our table was booked for 18:30 and was double booked, we had to then wait half an hour for a table big enough to be free. Once seated we asked for menus and nothing came, asked again and told to use the QR code, this isn’t suitable for a large booking so asked for physical menus again (but first was asked if I want the bottomless brunch menu, at 7pm?!). When asking how to order with the menu as it wasn’t table service, I was told we had to go to the bar, which was 6 rows deep at this point with not enough bar staff.

At this point we decided it was going so terribly and we were being completely ignored I went to get my £40 back which I had previously paid to hold the table as it was a large booking. Once again was told to go to the bar to get my refund, after queuing through the rows and rows of people I was told to go to the manager, with no direction to who this is, I went and asked who told me to go to the bar that I needed the manager, he disappeared and never returned. I was then left standing in the middle of the busy bar being completely ignored by all members of staff.

A friend then managed to get the manager, to which she took my booking reference and told me she would “immediately get my refund sorted and I would receive an email soon that evening”, I have yet to receive this email. However I would like to add the manager was the only helpful member of staff we spoke to, and was very apologetic.

If you can’t run the establishment to serve dinner sufficiently on a Saturday evening then I suggest you stop this all together if you can’t provide the service.

I have contacted the complaints department at...

Well what can I say considering it was a very quiet Sunday with less than fifteen people in the restaurant- bar and waiting staff included our experience here today was appalling!

The bar staff checking constantly with the tables ordering cocktails but for my partner and I who had a lemonade and a pint he was definitely not bothered asking if we needed a drink.

Food wasn’t hot surprisingly for an overcooked piece of fish you would expect it to be hot however this was not the case at all for mine or my partners. Chips and peas exactly the same… cold.

Considering how dead it was we had to wait for cutlery after the meal arrived so a warm dinner then the waitress couldn’t find any vinegar so she had to look around the premises making our dinner even colder. I could understand if it was busy waiting for cutlery or waiting on vinegar as they would have been rushed off their feet but considering it was a Sunday afternoon with football on with it being so quiet it’s just bang out of order to have had service like this.

Staff not really a care in the world what’s going on just with their heads in the clouds not attentive on the customers they do have. Stood around not doing anything just at the bar chatting.

Decor/cleanliness: Sticky table! Flashing lightbulb above our table one second it would work the next minute it would be off. The only highchair that we could see that was available was sticky and covered in food! We had to feed our son in the pram as it was too vile to clean with wet wipes.

Will not be returning to this establishment certainly would not be recommending! Get a better service and hotter food...
