This is the ploughmans I've been looking for. I heard about this place a few years back and have been attempting to pay "The Apple" a visit. As a cider drinker and a lover of a cheese, chutney and crusty bread I am still reeling from the most awesome lunch I have had in a long time.
Set on a really simple boat with seats on the cobbles and on board split over two levels we opted for river side seats on the top deck of the boat. After ordering our food and sampling a few ciders at the bar we sat down and waited for the usual long wait during the busy office hour lunch break. We where in for a shock when our ploughmans turned up quite promptly. It was too good to eat and I just looked and it and took some pictures, Which as a non-instergramer I never do!
We ordered two different ploughmans to give us a bit of variety, this gave us 3 different chutney's and a whole grain mustard, blue cheese, smoked apple wood, cheddar and a delicious perfectly sized pork pie along with ample helpings off crackers and warm bread.
I can not do this meal justice in words, you have to go and try if for yourself. I will be...
Read moreMyself and a group of friends were excited to go to the Apple but were insanely disappointed upon arrival. Entering, a server named 'Tim' sat us down with an attitude that he had 'done us a favour' for letting us in. We had waited just like all other customers so this was a bizarre attitude to have. Before ordering he demanded that we all pay together, when asked why he said it was because 'it would take ages individually'. We said that we didn't have each others bank details and to that he said that we 'shouldn't even be here together' if that were the case. Completely appalled by his treatment of us we couldn't help that think that perhaps he might not have been so rude had we been a group of men? I wonder why he felt he could be so rude to us when all we wanted was a drink at the place he worked at. Suspecting Tim may not have given his actual name - avoid being served by a skinny blonde guy in his mid twenties...
Read more1 star is too high a rating for the service we received last night. We were given the wrong drink, and rather than replacing the drink with what we ordered in the first place, we were told that it couldn’t be replaced because it had been put down on the table?? The error wasn’t our fault and it really wouldn’t have cost them anything to replace it but instead the manager stood and argued with us for 10 minutes. They have lost 5 loyal customers, which will cost them more money in the long run. He was so concerned about the cost of replacing the incorrect drink but he didn’t even charge us for our last round of 5 drinks - the manager clearly needs to undertake some sort of training because he doesn’t have a clue...
