A great local gym that really puts customers first. I prefer free weights and there's lots of benches, squat racks, dumbbells, kettlebells and extra barbells so you can deadlift etc even if the squat racks are full. There's a lot of good quality machines for weights and cardio too, and though i don't use the cardio equipment much there's loads of it and with a nice view of the water too! Staff are friendly and helpful, there are lots of popular classes with good instructors and all the PTs are top notch. If you can get to the gym out of peak time you won't have to wait for anything. I don't play squash but the courts are definitely a draw if you do, very nice and new. The stretching room has enough mats that i've only had to wait once or twice in years, and the cafe has treats, coffee and healthy snacks if you forget to bring your own. The showers have excellent pressure and are really hot which is especially lovely in winter! Most importantly the gym is relaxed and quite mixed (more students this time of year, changes toward the summer), and very respectful, safe and friendly. I've never been made to feel uncomfortable or worried about leaving my belongings in the changing room or even on my mat if i have to grab something from another room. Really good value for the central location and very welcoming atmosphere....
Read moreGood gym in general for new gym goers. For seasoned gym goers, the separation of freeweights downstairs to cables & machines upstairs might annoy.
Atmosphere is pretty chill and people are generally nice. Café can be a little costly but there's a good vibe and the terrace over the water is nice to sit on.
Gents changing rooms are pretty uncomfortable due to the heat from the sauna. Makes having a shower a bit pointless.
The staff are all very pleasant and are on hand to help with anything.
Main problem is water pressure to the fountains for refilling bottles. It's a bit of a dribble.
The August payment is £15 higher than standard payments for "improvement" purposes. Feels like a bit of a hustle (especially when new joiners have to pay it regardless of if it is their second month).
Generally speaking the gym is good if you are starting or are an occasional gym goer. May not...
Read moreHaving tried pretty much all the gyms in central Bristol, Workout on Welshback has to be my favourite, whilst the facilities may not be as pristine and perfect as some of the new 'super-gyms' in Bristol, I found Workout had pretty much everything I needed and more. The thing I love most about it is that it is super-affordable (£9.99) for an off-peak membership which is incredible compared to the £70 I was paying to go to a smaller, worse equipped gym at Nuffield.
The staff are always super helpful and the gym is regularly cleaned. The only faults I could find would be changing rooms which are always hot (due to poor ventilation I assume), but am told these are due to be upgraded and the water fountains provided which aren't the best. All in all though i'd say fantastic value for money especially with...
