The Oaks — Restaurant in Bury

Called in for a bite to eat and a drink with my friend and her two children. Landlord and staff were absolutely lovely and so friendly and welcoming. Ordered drinks and food and one of the children spilt her while drink all over the floor. The landlord was on to it straight away and made no fuss about the mess it made even we were really apologetic for the accident. He just said "don't worry, it happens! We serve drinks, we expect spills!" And he replaced the drink at no charge. Our food arrived quickly. We odered 2 different sandwiches and 2 homemade Cheese and Onion Pie, Chips and Beans for us adults and it was absolutely DELICIOUS!! Clearly the pie was made with love in a traditional old school way. The plates were cleared away quickly when we'd all finished eating and we were thanked for our custom when we were leaving. Hard to find somewhere as quaint, friendly and serving such lovely homemade food. We recommend The Oaks to many friends, colleagues and family members after we'd been and we have returned many times since and been consistently treated well each time. Top...

I made a mistake after a long day, and i was sure i had paid with a bigger note than i got change for. I wasn't flustered until they were nasty to me. I could have just checked my wallet again and seen the larger note in there. I thought it had been all i had on me. If i was treated decently like i was treating them, the whole scene would have been avoided where i was trying to explain my certainty. Would have preferred them not being nasty to me when they told me i used a smaller bill, so i would have naturally listened to the fact as stated and not just responded to the sneery treatment with a sense of injustice. Otherwise would have been a great place to write poetry. I busted out three poems in fifteen minutes that i was happy with. Didn't even finish half my beer. Now i am banned for...

Another pub probably more frequented by the locals. It's lovely inside and they often have live music. Definitely worth a visit when in the area. Edit (May 2024) It now has new mangement. Lovely people. (Dean and Stacey.) The food is stunning. Try a DFC. That's Dean's Fried Chicken. Delicious. Salt and pepper chips are delicious, too. They have a burger combo with two normal beefburgers - absolutley delicious - and a chicken breast coated with Dean's 11 herbs and spices which are every bit on a par with that Colonel from Kentucky.
