Some heaven for you...
@maison_clement_cambridge is my one of my favourite bakeries and patisseries in the world.
Small, friendly, fantastic, with fresh batches of delishusness prepared every morning, you will find it on Cambridge's rather lovely Hill Road.
My friend Erica introduced it to me before this post chemo diabetes, a few years ago. It all started with the strawberry tart. One bite and I was in love. Their tarts have a perfect crumbly crisp pastry with a custard that's not too sweet or tart, soft, light and jussssst perfect, topped with fruit or strawberries. Heavenly. Quite heavenly.
My little one loves their stunnjng chocolate eclairs. Bite through the indulgent chocolate to get that fresh light fluffy cream in the centre fill your mouth. Ma loves the coffee eclairs. I swoon as I write.
Their butter crosissants are my cheat treat nowadays.
The perfect crosissant should be light, layered, crispy outside, soft inside. It should flake at the slightest touch and it simply must smell of butter. A deep brown, beautifully layered and absolutely utterly divine ... these ones hit the mark 👌 and more! Almond, Pain au chocolate or plain butter (my favs) I cannot go on about them enough. Crosissants are something one could practically write a whole separate blog on. So I'll move swiftly on...
To the breads... So I'm kind of keeping an eye on the GI of foods nowadays. Keeping an eye is different from following hehe I picked a multigrain today, because I couldn't find a wholegrain but it is such a beautiful beautiful bloomer! Crusty outside and grainy soft inside, it's dense, healthy and soooooo delicious. Toasted with butter and marmalade or dipped in olive oil w balsamic vinegar, can't wait to dig in. Oh the things one can do w a good bread!
And so it is...my appetite is back...Alhamdolillah!
Hope you can make your way to this treasure in #Cambridge someday! They have a great coffee as well, hot or iced, and I live five minutes away, so we might even bump into each other :)
Oh and can I add, the lovely behind the counter sings like a nightingale!
Love love...
Read moreUnfortunately after numerous delightful visits to this bakery in Hills Road, I have had a very bad experience which has put me off returning. I understand that the shop gets very busy with long queues sometimes. However there is little excuse for bad service. We were at the shop just after 10 am on 29th August and it was starting to get busy. From the start, the lady serving us was unpleasant and dismissive. There were some samples on the counter and we asked to try them. We were only a couple of seconds but instead of waiting, she went straight to the next person in the queue. We felt rushed from then on and felt like she was trying to finish with us as soon as possible. I asked for a pastry from the bottom shelf and told her whereabouts it was three times. I later found out she had picked the wrong one. My card was declined and instead of letting me try again she asked for another one. By now I felt so rushed and embarrassed that I paid cash. She gave me my coffee which was too hot to hold and just pointed to the napkins by the door. That was it…no thank you or goodbye …just moved on to the next customer. Not good especially when I found out I had been given a pastry that I didn’t ask for and didn’t like. *Almost immediately after I posted this review, the owner contacted me about the issues I had and was very understanding. He also offered to make amends by giving me a coffee and cake when I next visited. I really appreciated his...
Read moreI make a point of coming here every time I’m in Cambridge, even if I have to (and mostly do) walk an extra 5 miles out of my way.
I haven’t tried their bread but it looks absolutely beautiful, it has the lovely dark crust you want in a good loaf.
Their pastries! My god their pastries! Do yourself a favour and grab a croissant whose shell almost shatters in your mouth, eclairs with actual texture to them, galaxies apart from the dire mush you get in supermarkets.
I try to get something new every time I go there, which isn’t difficult as their offerings rotate nicely.
The staff are beyond courteous and friendly, you feel welcomed the moment you step in, it’s a cozy affair if you want to enjoy yourself inside with one long wooden table stretching across by their shop window with views into the bakery itself.
Maison Clement deserves the high reviews it’s receiving and I only wish I...
