The croissants alone would be a reason to travel from afar, with the puff pastry made on the premises with French flour and butter: the outside crunchy, the inside fluffy, with the smell of fresh butter, in particular in the morning when they are warm, fresh from the oven (baked on the premisses, too). The best croissants in Cambridge, and I would dare to say, they would beat even those from most bakeries in France. So would other Viennoiseries made from puff pastry or raised dough in various shapes and flavours, e.g. the Kanelsnurrer, a plaited raised dough flavoured with cinnamon and cardamom.
The second reason to get up and to the bakery early is the variety of yeast based and sour-dough breads that truly deserve the denomination bread: an outside crust that makes this special crunch noise when you squeeze it, and the inside soft and full of flavours. Take a fresh demi-baguette, slice it in half and spread salted Normandy butter, nothing else needed, marvellous. That is the litmus test of any good bread. All breads are similarly delicious, from house sour-dough, the spelt, the rye, or kamut and buckwheat. More than just substrate for sandwiches, these breads are a culinary experience on their own.
As a whole, this bakery is a blessing for Cambridge; all the best and may others follow allowing more people to enjoy the simple pleasures that do not cost the world (literally and...
Read moreI donât get why this place has got so many positive reviews, maybe I have way higher standards on food, being Italian. I ordered a classic butter croissant and a Kanelsnurrer (a cinnamon and cardamom pastry) and a latte, via Uber Eats. I specifically asked for a strong latte, but they didnât consider my request at all. The croissant was nothing special, I could barely taste the butter. The other pastry was a bit dry and the latte, as I said, lacked of coffee. I could only taste milk basically. Overall, I was really disappointed as I had high expectations of this place as itâs a bakery and the highest rated in Cambridge, so I thought I Canât go wrong. However, once again I got fooled by the nice pics...
Read moreI went to the Cambridge Oven on Sunday the 5th of November. With my dad who came over from France with my mum for the weekend. I was organising a brunch for 9 people so we took quite a few Croissants and Brioches as well as a loaf of Sourdough bread. When the owner heard that we were french he asked me to give him feedback on his work. So here I am ! We were actually agreeably surprised. The croissants were fresh and buttery (a little too sweet maybe), the brioches nice and soft. The bread was unfortunately soft and not crunchy which was a shame because the taste was really good. It is a little overpriced (even for Paris!) but I would definitely recommend (and I already have if I have...
