Yates - Cheltenham — Restaurant in Cheltenham

Arrived at your pub for lunch (Mon. 2/11)as the food is usually OK (well it is in the Sutton coldfied pub) ordered a mixed grill and a 8oz. Rump steak both well done. Cost me over £15. Waited 40 minutes then the food arrived, the peas where shrivelled and the chips where mere remnants of what chips should be. The bar man did not question us when we asked for them to be changed. 10 minutes later the food comes back the peas and chips are fine, started to eat, and the steak which is supposed to be well done is burnt on the outside yet still pink in the middle on both steaks, the 8 oz. Had more fat than you would expect on a rump. And the sausage on the mixed grill must have been reheated at least 5 times you could see it on the inside when I hadcut it open, and it was like stone. We ate what we could, not much at that, when finished the barman came to collect the plates and asked if we had enjoyed our meal he could see how much we had left and I showed him the sausage and the fat that was from the rump steak and asked would you be happy with this, he apologised and took the plates away, obviously the chef you are employing at this pub has no knowledge Of presentation or how to cook. But he does know how to burn. After using the Yates in Sutton Coldfield and know how good the food is there, the pub in Cheltenham is a really bad experience. Arrived at Yates around 11am Saturday to watch the rugby with some mates. The rugby was on two big screens and half dozen smaller ones so plenty of opportunity to watch the game. The young lady working there - KIERA - blacked out the windows for optimum viewing and then offered our small group a table service, which was brilliant. Some guys had a breakfast which was large and delicious according to them. KIERA was fun and super friendly with her hospitality keeping the table service going. We went back there at 6pm where we all then had a meal and KIERA was good at making sure we were aware of any offers. Again she, and her team were really friendly. The pub is clean and the seating is very comfortable. We will be going back there again...

Went in to meet an old friend and Rugby. Always struck me as a busy or empty place. Very busy today. Had a few beers, well priced (was a bit limited for my taste, but it was covered). Had a meal, bit restricted menu, but according to the boss were at 40% staff (Think i got offered a job). Meals were plain and filling, plentiful for a great price under £20.00 for two, main course. At 40% staff I think they did very well, I'm certainly not going to knock it on a Saturday eve, well done. The only downside was a rowdy hen night.
