Not great. 2.3/5 Very average gastropub food. Based on other recent reviews it seems that I missed my chance to visit when it was good!
To clarify this is not "fine dining" as other reviews have suggested. This is fine, the aim seems to be simple food done well which was my expectations.
The good points: The octopus main we had as a starter was tasty and the atmosphere not too loud and not too quiet. The decor fits a slightly more upmarket place for a more special occasion.
The not so good: The menu is not that interesting, so I expected it to be done well. The beef brisket was so-so but went cold very quickly and then tasted overcooked (I doubt they warmed the plates). The few vegetables were a let down with the side order of chips fairly tasteless. The wine was not to my taste either. Based on this we decided to skip dessert.
The bad: Unfortunately the completely stone faced waitress was not attentive and did not seem to care if we enjoyed the meal or not. The water glasses were dirty and worst of all we were not once asked how the food was!
It is a shame because I had been hoping LeftField would become my go-to place to take visitors for a higher end meal. I doubt I will return. Luckily there are plenty of far better and more interesting places nearby (many of which are...
Read moreThe experience was a disaster. We were asked to leave our table after 75 minutes before we had even received our dessert. So disappointing as the food was good. We were expected to finish our meal sat om a stool at a small bar. Apparently the restaurant has a 90 minute policy to vacate your table, which we were told was sent to us by email after booking. We had not received this and were completely unaware. Even so you would expect to be able to complete 3 courses in the time allocated when the restaurant was half full! This spoilt the meal completely and was not handled well by the front of house. My partner burst into tears on leaving. When we were asked to vacate our 2 cover table, the restaurant was half full with 2 free tables and another 4 cover table half occupied. One of these tables we had asked to use on arrival but were told we couldn't. The table we were allocated had a very uncomfortable and unsightly painted plywood bench with cushions. We completed our lunch without taking coffee in 100mins, 10 minutes over their limit. A limit of 2 hrs would be much more suitable. As it is we left without coffee or tip and won't be...
Read moreWe prebooked a couple of weeks in advance for dinner for 2 at 8pm. We happened to be in the area early so popped in at 7:15 to ask if our table was ready. They said we could sit at the small bar / waiting area next to the door but otherwise just come back at 8 for our table. We agreed, went to their sister wine bar next door, and came back at 8. They still sat us at the waiting area by the door despite there being a two top table available. It was super cold by the door so they did give us blankets and turned on an extra heater but conversation was difficult as everyone that came in was waiting literally right next to us as we tried to eat. (One of the men that came in and was waiting even helped us with our coats because he was awkwardly standing over us). We ordered a few sharing plates and were told we needed to order mains because the kitchen was closing. We never got refills on our water or wine and spent the meal staring at the open table we had reserved and watching them clean the dishes that were in front of us as the “bar” seating area is in the service area for the wait staff....
