A few months ago I attended (along with a large group of friends). I asked if they were serving food. The bartender with brown mullet said they were not. I noted the time and thought it was odd for the kitchen to closed at such a strange time. I asked another member of staff and they said that they were still taking orders. I ordered and watched an even larger hen-do sit down to eat as well.
After waiting an hour (and watching the hen-do receive their food) and repeatedly asking the staff what was going on, there was no food. What I did notice was confusion amongst the staff, and the mulleted genius who caused the problem was nowhere to be seen.
When I first asked where the food was the staff said they didn't know anything about an order and asked me to order again. This took a few more attempts before finally I got my burger after 2 hrs.
I thought this was the worst customer service I had ever had in Edinburgh.
Yesterday, the same incompetence and lack of communication between bar and kitchen occurred again. After waiting another hour I started to feel like The Golf Tavern was gaslighting me. Like an abused partner whose husband denies remembering things they said, the staff seemed oblivious to the fact that I was the only person who had ordered food and yet they still couldn't remember what I had ordered.
Each time I have been refunded for the food that eventually came and yesterday the young blonde bartender did at least try to apologise, whereas the first time there was no apology.
I have now eaten at this establishment for free. Twice due to gross incompetence and an apparent continuing problem with communication. Yesterday the manager suggested that there could be a problem with the tech that sends the order to the kitchen stating 'we've had problems for the last 2 weeks'. This is not the case because the first appalling experience happened a few months ago.
If the issue with food orders continues and refunds keep being made, there will be no...
Read moreThis review is to commend a member of staff called Gavin. On Saturday 2 March I called the customer service team at The Golf to book (at very short notice - 1 week!) a surprise 60th birthday party for my husband on Saturday 9 March. The person I booked with on the phone told me that I could go into the Tavern at 2pm on the afternoon of the date of the party to decorate the function room upstairs where the party would take place, however when I arrived both downstairs and upstairs in the function room was completely full due to a rugby game on the TV. I spoke with Gavin on arrival and explained the situation and despite being extremely busy with customers, he was very calm, polite and helpful about the problem. He offered to take everything for me including the decorations, cake and my sons laptop which we had taken for music purposes and I explained briefly what I'd planned to do by way of decor. To be honest I was a bit apprehensive about leaving it for someone else to do but Gavin went above and beyond - he not only decorated the room perfectly and to my exact specification, but he'd also, as a gesture of goodwill, provided helium for balloons I'd taken along and created a fantastic atmosphere. In addition to that he came upstairs on the night of the party to ask if everything had been to our satisfaction. I honestly can't thank Gavin enough for everything he did for me to help to make the night a great success; it could have gone so wrong if it had not been for his help, so with great appreciation I hope that his fantastic customer service care can be recognised by his employer and hopefully rewarded. Every venue should have a Gavin; he's a real ambassador for his workplace. Thank you so much Gavin; I truly hope you're given the recognition...
Read moreWent here one Saturday early in the afternoon for a pre booked meal. On arrival the bar staff/waitress apologised for the delays we were going to encounter as she was the only staff member working other than kitchen staff. We were seated and after a not unreasonable time our order was taken so no delays encountered yet.
The bar is very sport orientated so there are multiple screens for viewing but to keep the ambience of the place good the sound was off. In my particular seat I was head on to a screen showing Wolves v Brentford live, as a Wolves fan this was good 😁.
Food arrived in a reasonable time and drinks replenished so still no delays encountered the lone staff member was doing a cracking job and the place was getting quite busy now with revellers starting their weekend drinking marathons. Food was excellent, way better than I expected and not expensive, this is student country so prices are kept quite low. Menu was a little limited at lunch time but evening menu's look quite varied so check what's available before if you're booking in advance I would suggest as the website wasn't too clear on this.
Food cleared up and bill paid all in reasonable time so still no delays experienced, my only compliant was Wolves lost 0-2, nearly ruined my meal but not quite.
The pub is fine, not fantastic but certainly not awful either, it's very welcoming and had a nice ambience, outside opposite is wide open parkland with Arthur's Seat in the distance, pleasant experience overall I'd certainly do it again, without the Wolves losing...
