I’m actually a bit ashamed of the fact that as a local, I had never been here before! My aunt and I stumbled upon this restaurant while reading a book about the best places to visit in Edinburgh, and we are so grateful we discovered Hendersons.

The menu has enough options to give you plenty of variety but not too many to overwhelm you. (The hummus we chose to share from the nibbles section has changed my world. Seriously.) This restaurant is perfect for vegetarians and vegans that love their veggies, but it’s also great for non-vegetarians looking to eat green without feeling like they are being picky. I am a vegetarian and sometimes I feel like eating outside can be very overwhelming but this menu was just perfect.

But the food isn’t the only great thing here, the service is just as good. Everyone on the team was lovely, cheerful and ready to help on anything we needed. I would like to give a special mention to our server tonight, Abi, because he went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect during our visit. He regularly checked if we needed anything or if the food was okay, and when we got the wrong tea he was super quick to change it for us without any type of fuss. It was also quite fun to discover that like us, Abi is Spanish too, which made the experience even more amazing since he could switch between English and Spanish to help prevent misunderstandings and to joke with us and make us feel more comfortable.

Whether you are visiting (like my aunt) or you are a local (like me), Hendersons is definitely a must visit place in Edinburgh. 10/10 food with 10/10 service✨✨.

Will definitely be coming...

Really disappointing experience. We booked a table a week in advance and were genuinely excited to visit. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere had a charming, cosy feel — Unfortunately the food completely let it down. We ordered the miso aubergine and the risotto. The risotto arrived with a hard, crusted top, clearly having sat under a heat lamp in the kitchen for far too long. The aubergine was completely tastless and came with four limp, over-steamed pieces of broccoli — no flavour, just wet and lukewarm. We didn’t want to cause a scene, so ate quietly and chalked it up to a bad night. The wine was genuinely good — the only highlight of the meal. When the bill came, it included a 12.5% service charge. The waiter mentioned it was optional, even though it was already added. At that point, I decided to share our feedback. I made it clear I wasn’t asking for a refund or discount, but that we wouldn’t be paying the service charge due to how disappointed we were with the food. Instead of taking the feedback on board, the manager/waiter got defensive and began berating me for not saying something sooner. Again, I reiterated that I wasn’t trying to make a fuss — just being honest. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. If you’re in the mood for overcooked vegetables, you’d honestly have a better time at a...

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! Highly recommended!

Henderson is one of our latest discovered gems in the city. Watching the vegetarian/vegan scene growing fast in Edinburgh, we wanted to give it a try and go away from the more mainstream cuisines. First interaction was over the phone as I tried to book a table last minute on a Saturday. The gentleman over the phone (name Barry) was very helpful and he helped us with providing alternatives to get us a table. Getting there, we were very positively impressed of how friendly were all the people working there. Coming to the food, I would easily say that we were highly impressed! The quality of the dishes and the combination of flavours were so spot on! We were a mixed group of vegetarians and non-vegetarians and we all were commenting positive our dishes and sides. Personality as a non-vegetarian, I was highly surprised by the fact the I didn't miss at all the lack of non-vegetarian ingredients. I will be most definitely going back and highly recommending the place. Give it a try and you will definitely will not be disappointed.

P.S. Thank you Barry and all the Henderson team for the...

Three dining areas: as you come in with high table and two separate dining areas. The area in front of the windows was nicer. Dried scrubs on the ceiling and also on the wall with upfront Wood tables with wood chairs Focus lighting coming from the ceiling shubbery and the end mirror A lot of wood with being colour pain with plant son the window ledge Nice table in front of the window for people watching Nice chill music Figaro was ok, a tad bit too sweet but made better with a touch of water to blend the sweetness in Good looking dish- one piece which is somewhat pricy Sour and sweet Crispy tostada with what looks like mole red cabbage Picked pineapple and jackfruit was sweet but void of substantial taste. The haggis croquettes was more generous with three piece - tasted more like a nut croquette rather than haggis It was nice but would have been better if there was no association with haggis or tying to pretend that it was a replacement for haggis Mustard sauce was ok, somewhat overpowering and could have been something more subtle 12.5 % service charge option but not reflective of service
