Upon hearing that Margot, our new favourite brunch spot, were introducing a new sharing menu, we knew we simply had to try it.
From the moment you walk in to Margot, all the staff are so friendly and welcoming; it feels like a place that is genuinely pleased to see you.
After being shown to our table, we were recommend different wines to try - each of the four we did try were incredible, and I was really pleased to find that they were organic. They were in fact, some of the best wine I have had in a long time. My particular favourite was the Uivo Pet Nat Curtido, if you’re a fan of orange wine then this is a must try. Definitely my drink of choice this summer!
As for the food, the assortment of dishes and flavours on the menu was superb. I love being able to share a variety of dishes with friends, and each dish we were brought was so wonderfully individual and different from the last; we became more and more excited as the meal went on.
First, we were brought the oysters. The standout of the two being the Balsamic Jalapeño Oyster, I could not believe how fresh the seafood was the whole night, just absolutely gorgeous. The jalapeño added a little kick without being overpowering, I’m still dreaming of the oysters 3 days on. My favourite savoury dish of the night was the Cured Halibut, the flavours coming through on this dish were so vibrant; just a lovely fresh and light option. My friend absolutely loved the Peas with whipped ricotta and wasabi, she is usually not a fan of any of these ingredients but they were prepared so beautifully it ended up being her favourite dish of the evening; a real reflection of the quality of the food. Every dish we had was perfect, from their homemade pickles to the Beef Bun.
Let’s not forget the Tiramisu! We managed to make room for it, and thank god we did. It was absolute heaven, definitely one of the best tiramisus in Edinburgh. The texture of the sponge, the strength of the coffee flavour, the fact it was served at the table; everything about this was perfect.
We cannot wait to return for...
Read moreI walk by this place regularly and finally got to try it. Honestly everything was good! Food space staff were all a win!
Food: I had the Turkish eggs which were divine and so well seasoned. The sauce was like a green salsa (is it zhoug?), which I much prefer to red sauces or paprika, so keep in mind if you're looking for a more familiar çilbir. The bread it came with was equally delicious!! (I don't know if it came with it or I accidentally ordered it as a side btw ...worth checking) We had coffee and cake too, both good (beautiful latte art). Parsnip carrot cake is creative and we'll balance , though a little dry for a carrot cake (personally wasn't my favorite because it was a sort of buttercream and I was expecting a cream cheese frosting and a moister cake)
Space: The place is very pretty, with different types of seating from high tables, low tables, couches, window seating. There's lots of privacy because of the three rooms the space is divided into. The lighting is cute
Staff: friendly people who seem happy working together. nice to see them chatting together, and will take time to describe...
Read moreHere I am, seated at a café, eager for a breakfast as they open their doors at 8:30 AM. Yet, the clock ticks close to 9:00 AM before any sign of service emerges. The staff, while occasionally casting friendly glances, seems more preoccupied with folding napkins and bustling about in the kitchen, perhaps orchestrating the day’s operations, rather than attending to the patrons. I find myself deserted, unable to place an order, seemingly invisible to the bustling staff.
An employee finally acknowledges my presence, suggesting that if I wish to order, I should approach the counter because that’s where the mobile card reader is “anchored” — a stark contradiction to the presence of an extensive menu laid out before me, which, under normal circumstances, would suggest table service. The logic behind having to trek to the counter to order, despite the suggestive setup of a sit-down service, eludes me.
After a bewildering wait, I manage to order. My expectations are modest at best. Food and coffee was...
