Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Edinburgh for the past year and half. I’ve been to both of their restaurants for lunch, dinner and brunch, by myself, with friend(s), with my partner. Each time we enjoyed the food and the overall experience. Their place on Strathearn road is like a cosy little place for lunch that feels like home, and I remember my first time going there after getting recommendations from a friend. I ordered their signature noodles and I was instantly impressed by the taste and felt nostalgic, as it tastes almost the same as the traditional BiangBiang noodles in Xi’an, China that I grow up having since I was a kid. It’s always such unforgettable experience finding the taste of home in a foreign place. I enjoyed the noodles so much that I went back the next two days in a row to get the same dish and was even tempted to get two things (noodles & chicken sandwich) for just myself the third day, which amazed me again because the portions were huge for the price. The iced teas and matcha latte are also delicious. After learning they have recently moved to Sciennes road where Eliotts’ kitchen used to be, I have been there quite a few times and was never let down once. The menu is changed almost on a weekly basis so you’ll always find something new and exciting. Over the past few weeks, I’ve tried their fried chicken, ox tongue, Xinjiang lamb steak, Mapo, Hong Kong fishball curry, aubergine & tofu stir fry etc., and everything was absolutely scrumptious. Personally I highly hope they can bring back some of the old dishes in the future like the fishball curry. Their desserts are also gorgeous. The first time I went for dinner at Strathearn road, it was an extremely busy night, and my friend and I were seated at the bar feeling a little cramped at first (tbh we didn’t even care because we were totally distracted by the food), but the chef noticed it and was so kind and apologetic that they gave us a small complimentary dessert. My friend didn’t stop talking about their food afterwards for a week. The second time we went to Sciennes road for dinner, and overheard the table next to us saying the mango tart was the best tart/pudding they ever had. It turned out to be one of my favorite desserts ever. There was also a group of four Chinese men near us and they ordered almost every dish on the menu and devoured everything. Seeing more and more Chinese/Asian people come in for meals is definitely another sign that their food is also authentic despite the alterations/twists. We also really enjoyed the atmosphere at the Sciennes restaurant as the whole place was beautifully painted and decorated, candlelit and everyone seemed to have a good time. The portions are massive that we sometimes need to get takeaway but the staff are always helpful and friendly. The chef is so polite and a bit shy when receiving compliments from customers. Overall, this place has achieved a perfect balance between maintaining the savory taste and flavourfulness of traditional Asian/Chinese food and combining it with inspirations from Western cuisine. Can’t wait to bring my mum here when she visits me...

We'd wanted to try Pomelo for ages, and when we found out one of our favourite cafes was closing (Elliott's of Sciennes) our disappointment was quickly displaced by excitement that Pomelo was taking on the site to act as the home of their dinner service (among other things).

It flew right past any expectations we came in with. Currently running two set sittings, the place feels part-restaurant-part-supper club with diners sharing tables and enjoying their food in a cosy, buzzing atmosphere.

The menu changes all the time, but the constant are the extraordinary handripped noodles. The flavour is sensational, and even once the noodles were long gone we were all reaching for rice to soak up the sauce blend they came soaked in.

It's a 'sharing plates of various sizes' kind of affair, and not a single one disappointed. Chilli smacked cucumber, radish musaengchae, prawn toast on a Cantonese curry and salmon aburi with seaweed crisp were all spectacular. But then came the Korean Fried Chicken...

Huge pieces of crispy chicken absolutely DROWNING in one of the most addictive sauces I've ever experienced. None of your 'sparingly drizzled' nonsense. This is food that's been absolutely immersed in spice and flavour.

Topped off with a choux bun with hojicha creme, one of those desserts you definitely don't need but absolutely must have.

The team at Pomelo are so warm and friendly, you leave just willing them to succeed. I doubt they'll need any good luck, it's such a wonderful neighbourhood addition to...

I was looking forward to experiencing pomelo. With the reviews as well as pomelo’s award winning chef I had expectations of delicious Asian fusion food. Upon arriving I felt rushed to my table yet it took 25 minutes to order a drink. The server recommended we order 3-5 dishes each as they were small. We followed her advice and this was way too much food. Way TOO much food. We felt they were trying to get rid of it. The server kept saying you can take it home if you don’t eat it. They were so unorganized we took her advice to avoid a long wait as it took over 30 min to order food or get a unpalatable cocktail. As for the food… to say it was overly salty is a drastic understatement. I personally couldn’t even the eat the eggplant dish or the noodles. I felt I was drinking soy sauce. This was the case for all the food except for the spinach and cucumber dish. My friend ordered burrata which had gone bad. When she asked to send it back they refused by returning the same piece back to her telling her it was simply vinegar. It wasn’t vinegar it was off and that is simply poor customer service. Every dish was horribly salty to the point we couldn’t eat the food and had to leave. Pomelo may have been having an off night but if you want fresh flavorful Asian fusion with good customer service this is not my recommendation. One last thing … you never know who is going to leave a review. when we were introduced to the chef he didn’t even make eye contact. Great customer service can...

I had wanted to come here for a few months because many friends had recommended it to me. My expectations were high, and I can already say that you have exceeded them. First of all, the place itself: when I entered, I felt a homey, cosy place; the decor was beautiful, and I fell in love with the small bowls with the illustration of the fish. The food was, I have no words to describe it—a unique fusion of flavours. We ordered several things to share, and I couldn't pick one as a favourite because I loved them all. The eggplant marinara (a unique dish that was a mix of Sicilian and Asian), the bao, the chubby noodles, the pork, the kimchi radish, and the cucumber salad (which seems simple at first but was seasoned in such a way that the flavour was exquisite), a mushroom thing with a sauce that you mixed with rice. The food is out of this world. I give them an excellent with honours. In addition, I have discovered here a wine from my land (Valencia) called "el soplo". What a great wine. Finally, I would like to highlight the staff. The two girls were super friendly, but not out of politeness; you could tell they were that way naturally, that they had a passion for what they did. If the food was excellent, the service was at the same level. If there were awards like the Oscars in food, Pomelo would win.
